Does Bush Doctrine lead to Islamism? [US needs to talk to Hamas]
Pittsurghlive ^ | January 28, 2006 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 01/29/2006 6:40:24 AM PST by SJackson

The neoconservatives who dreamed up the Bush Doctrine -- promoting "democracy" would be the U.S. mission in the Middle East -- may be about to hold yet another "Seconds Thoughts" conference.

Certainly, Israel must be having second thoughts on the folly of having yielded to U.S. pressure and allowed Hamas to participate in elections. For Hamas, which is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and employs suicide-bomb attacks on civilians, has just won a sweeping political and moral victory in Palestine.

Freedom and democracy are on the march, says President Bush. Perhaps. But there is no doubt Islamism is on the march.

Not only is Hamas now the voice of Palestinian nationalism, Hezbollah used elections to establish itself as the political power in south Lebanon. In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood swept over half the parliamentary seats it was allowed to contest and appears the probable beneficiary to the political estate of President Mubarak.

Hamas won a moral victory? Hey, Pat, Islamism may be on the march but it can be stopped in its tracks. Palestinian nationalism? There is none--they don't want a NATION. They want to continue killing and destroying. We'll soon see where their choices take them.

The Pali's are monsters. Buchanan just sides with them because he dosen't like Jews. All this election means is that they have shown their true colors and when they attack Israel. She can justly destroy them as they so richly deserve.

The U.S. is now negotiating with Islamic radicals in Iraq.....so Pat is pretty much in the mainstream on this.

What Pat, and the Islamists, need to realize is this: Iraq and Afghanistan are experiments in modernizing a brutal culture. We're trying to do it with the least loss of life among the native population, often resulting in sacrifice and loss of life of our own armed forces.

If, despite our best efforts, large areas of the Islamic world continue on a course of conflict and terror, converting their oil wealth into WMDs, the West is going to have no alternative. There is going to be large scale WWII style annihilation of Islamic cities and countries. Tens or hundreds of millions may die. When even France starts talking about using military force in the ME, this option cannot be far away.

BTW Pat, Bill Clinton tried your tactic of kissing up to Islamic terrorists for eight years. It resulted in bombings of New York, Washington DC, Bali, Lisbon, and London. We better hope the neoconveratives are right, because the only option left is very ugly.

Good 'ol 'Blame-It-On-The-Israeli's' Pat. The lyrics change but the tunes the same.

Exactly! My thoughts exactly! After Islam in the guise of bin Laden attacked the free world, the US turned the cheek and offered Islam two opportunities. If Islam fails to take advantage of these opportunities it will reap its just rewards.

Hamas has to prove itself as a just and true leader of ALL people. Hamas will fail and show the world the true meaning of Islam and the world will be horrified.

Iran is run by a madman. The world must and will step up to the plate and face this madman down. It will be costly, but failing to do so will be worse.

PB is an idiot.

Thanks for letting all of us know you can't present any sort of valid counterargument to the points he makes, so you have to resort to personal attacks.

Be forgiving. "PB is an idiot" is probably the longest sentence he can write.

if we do not wish to be as isolated, we have to talk to them.

Uh, no, Pat, we don't.

Let Israel (you know, that country you suddenly are so concerned about) finish their wall and leave Hamas and their supporters to rot.

"Pat is an idiot" has become an ever-increasingly accurate observation. Now Pat says we need to talk to a terrorist group.

What the Palestinians did was to reveal who they are to the world.

Israel was the only country that already knew.

The harsh fact is that many more tens of thousands of Palestinians are about to die unless Hamas takes the path of non-violent change as promoted by India's Ghandi and America's MLKing Jr.

Are we about to see a miracle?

Pat was born too late.

He might have fitted in with the isolationists of the 1930s.

He's so far from the mainstream, it's a wonder he hasn't died of thirst. The US approach in Iran has far more to do with shoring up our relationship with Euro moderates than any true hope of convincing the muslim radicals. After being backstabbed and sabotaged in our efforts in Iraq, we have been constrained to let the "negotiator" approach fail miserably before we can rally another coalition. Thanks to A-holes just like Pat.

Anyone who can take a critical look at his drivel semantically, and still fall for it, is an idiot.

Pat is well gone into senility. Hamas existed before Bush was still playing baseball in TX.

But if Israel's course seems clear -- proceed to a separation of the two peoples, wall herself in and rely on U.S. moral, military and materiel support indefinitely -- what should U.S. policy be?

Stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel against Islamofascist hordes....

And make it CLEAR to these lunatics bent on destroying not ONLY Israel, but rest of civilization.
