Thanks. The report should be in soon. The prayers and good wishes help everyone. Especially the fine men and women in uniform that deal with it every day.
LOL - usually when I'm home, very few people want to hear my war stories. They tend to want to pretend that I never left the U.S.
Other friends of mine who were here have experiened this, too.
We haven't figured it out yet. We need to express it; it's been our lives. But so many back home seem squeamish or skittish and refuse to acknowledge that we have been here or that we might have changed.
It's weird.
JAN SLIVA, Associated Press Writer
LANDSTUHL, Germany - ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff and cameraman Doug Vogt were showing signs of improvement Monday after being seriously injured in a roadside bombing in Iraq.
Woodruff briefly opened his eyes and responded to stimuli to his hands and feet, the network said. The two were expected to return Tuesday to the United States, where they would be treated at the brain injury center of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
Woodruff and Vogt were flown to a military hospital in Germany on Monday. "They are showing early signs of reaction, signs of slow improvement," Marie Shaw, a spokeswoman for Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, told The Associated Press late Monday.
Col. Bryan Gamble, commander of the medical center, described Woodruff and Vogt as "very seriously injured, but stable," with injuries "typical of victims of improvised explosive devices." Gamble said their body armor likely saved them.
The anchor's brother was optimistic. "Having seen him, we think he's going to recover eventually," Dave Woodruff told ABC News. "It's going to be a long road, but he's a strong guy, and he's going to make it.
It was not immediately clear whether shrapnel had penetrated Woodruff's brain or if he was suffering from a concussive injury, said the former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw, a Woodruff family friend.
"The doctors had told them once they arrived that the brain swelling had gone down. In Bob's case, that had been a big concern. Yesterday they had to operate and remove part of the skull cap to relieve some of the swelling," Brokaw said on NBC'S "Today" show.
Vogt was filming a standup report with Woodruff and both were standing in the open hatch of an Iraqi military vehicle Sunday when a bomb went off. Vogt's injuries were less serious and he was talking and joking with colleagues on Monday, ABC said.
Woodruff also had a broken collarbone and broken ribs, Brokaw said.
"We have a long way to go. But it appears that we may have also come some distance from yesterday," ABC News President David Westin said in a letter to employees.
It can take days or weeks to discern the long term consequences of a traumatic brain injury, said Dr. Maurizio Miglietta, chief of surgical critical care at the New York University Medical Center/Bellevue, who was not involved in the men's treatment.
Landstuhl is the U.S. military's largest overseas hospital and has been the military's main care facility for Europe and the Middle East for more than half a century.
Maybe you can pick up the slack while the rest of us try and find our religion.
Totally uncalled for. Please do not drag this thread down.

Your post is far too cryptic for little ol' me, April.
Are you one of those people who must have the last word?
I thought that being an anchor for ABC made him a de facto commie, but that's just me.
I agree with you - The absolute rage with which the MSM are lying and spinning regarding Iraq is criminal.
It has only worsened since this incident with Mr. Woodruff. Watching CNN last night and this morning (along with a few of the other MSM newscasts) it is deplorable the lengths to which the MSM is trying to spin all news out of Iraq negative.
They are openly stating complete lies such as "there has been absolutely no progress in Iraq...all those on the ground agree with this".....These people have such agendas and absolutely no clue to what they are talking about....yet they push their lies and spin constantly.
But my bigger problem is the WH/GOP PR teams. They are worthless.
I watched Dan Bartlett on CNN this morning and he was absolutely a joke! The CNN women starts off with 3 or 4 false premises regarding how it has been a terrible year for GWB, a terrible year for America, a terrible year for Iraq and the GWOT.
She goes on to say the last few weeks things only "continue" to get worse with the new Zawahiri tape, the Jill Carrol tape, Woodruff being injured.....
Dan Bartlett's response was pathetic! He doesn't set one premise straight by saying....NO!, Your premise is wrong...in fact is has not been a terrible year....the reality is we are continually making progress in Iaq, two elections took place....more free Iraqi's voted in each of these, terrorists continue to be hunted down and killed 24/7, Zawahiri is still reduced to putting out silly video's, within America this President has appointed and had confirmed TWO judges to the SCOTUS, over 2 million new jobs were created, our nations growth (GDP) continues to remain at a historically high rate of increase, etc, etc, etc.
NO! Mr. Bartlett acted as if "yeah, things are sure really bad...but we are still positive....we are optimistic".
Absolutely pathetic how this WH responds.
If you want the continuous 24/7 negative spin to stop..(or to be at least reduced)...The WH PR people need to respond back to those on TV (the MSM talking heads) and call out their false premises right there on live TV! Make them look like fools. Make them look like the bias pukes they are.
Just a thought, but does anyone know if the military personnel in the vehicle are okay? Surprising you do not hear about them.
If you had to ask you already know the answer [grin]......
so is the wicked no more: (Al Qaeda and Saddam)
but the righteous is an everlasting foundation. (Our military, victims of 9/11 and Iraqis under the tyranny of Saddam)
We will leave the praying up to you for those that interfere with the everlasting foundation (because you seem to be a man of religion)
such as the left wing media and some Democrats (Blocking progress with the war on terror and the future of Iraq)
that seem to have munchausen syndrome by proxy in Iraq. (Suffocating our military mission with Vietnam War style journalism, Ignoring Saddams atrocities and forgetting 9/11 for their own personal agenda)
You can do all the praying for these ends justifys the means monsters because many of us cant find it in our heart to do so.
I hope that is more decipherable
the soldiers injured or killed are Iraqi. To admit that Iraqi's are dying by the tens of thousands for this cause would undermine the MSM's position.

A few opinions shared by the troops both going over and coming home.
* I have asked my Mom not to watch any news while I am gone; Moms worry enough without having to listen to that garbage.
* I try to avoid reporters. If you don't talk to them they can't twist your words.
* They only use the quotes from someone having a bad day or the one guy with a bad attitude.
* We can be at a scene and return to base only to hear CNN multiply the numbers of injured in initial reports.
* I worry just as much about my family hearing only media spin as I do my own safety while I'm downrange.
* What? A reporter here? I need to go outside for a smoke.
* They are as much fun as the wacky professors on campus.

I can believe it. All three of my sons have had to deal some being embedded. They tried their best not to talk to them. The comments I posted are just a small sample. You can't put into words to look of disgust on their face when they talk about reporters. 18 posted on 12/04/2005 8:02:30 PM PST by armymarinemom (My sons freed Iraqi and Afghanistan Honor Roll students.)

It's really an odd situation. When they find out that I have sons serving we usually trade stories about dealing with the media down range and on the home front. A lot of them have asked how hard it has been dealing with stories about Cindy Sheehan during the last few months. A lot have asked how bad listening to the news really upset us. It seems as if they are getting a pulse on family responses before they spend time with their own families when they get home.
I have openly asked them how the media seeks out a negative response from a Marine, or Soldier. I have also asked them if they felt more at risk with a reporter near them. The answers to those questions are just what you would expect. The media looks for troops having a bad day and they feel more at risk with a reporter near them.

Now here is a great Mom
Busted. lol
What evidence has Bob Woodruff, specifically, given you that he is an "ends justifys the means monster," as you've labeled him?
He's had the anchor job for all of one month.
If you throw mud on a wall and label it "art," don't be surprised when people call you on it.
Is that your last word on the subject?
