While even some 'less sanguine' Republicans/conservatives were not so hot about invading Iraq... action in Iran crosses over party lines.

Despite the recent attempts of the George Orwell led Democrat party to rewrite history, support for invading Iraq crossed over party lines very strongly.

The resolution (HJ Res 114) to authorize the use of any and all military force that the President deemed necessary was 296-133 in the House and 77-23 in the Senate. That's incredibly strong bipartisan support, given the makeup of the dims in Congress.

I guess I missed what happened to the president's line item veto power. I found the following, which is informative, but what is the status now?

_____________________________________________________

"..."
The line-item veto, a pillar of the House Republicans' "Contract With America," passed both houses of Congress overwhelmingly and was signed into law in early 1996.

It took effect during the budget year that began Oct. 1.

The law has been challenged in court for radically altering the balance of power within the federal government without the enactment of a constitutional amendment. Many experts believe the law will be struck down, but until it is, the president for the first time in history may delete individual spending items from appropriations bills without vetoing the entire bill."

It's all about denying the vote on Judge Alito prior to the SOTU address

I know .. but all it does is make them look petty in the eyes of the Moderate Dems Voter

President Bush is a gentleman...and has respect for the office of the POTUS...so, he will NOT bash Clinton on nationwide TV...

But, I wouldn't look for the Clintons to be invited to Crawford....

By the latest count there are a combined total of 62 votes for Alito and for yes on cloture. Why would the nuke option be needed?

I think you're both right. Isn't it interesting the Democrats are reduced to delaying a vote as a sign of their power? They are not in control of the Presidency, the House or Senate, and are losing their control of the Supreme Court. So now, a delay is considered a win for them. Pathetic pandering to their far left base is what it's all about.

62 - that's great!

"Notice that filibuster is not the talk of the town?"

Yes, simply amazing. We all know if they had the votes, it would be non-stop talk on every station!
