Spies, Lies and Wiretaps (NY Times Off Its Meds Alert)
New York Times ^ | January 29, 2006 | The Editors

Posted on 01/29/2006 2:46:46 AM PST by RWR8189

A bit over a week ago, President Bush and his men promised to provide the legal, constitutional and moral justifications for the sort of warrantless spying on Americans that has been illegal for nearly 30 years. Instead, we got the familiar mix of political spin, clumsy historical misinformation, contemptuous dismissals of civil liberties concerns, cynical attempts to paint dissents as anti-American and pro-terrorist, and a couple of big, dangerous lies.

The first was that the domestic spying program is carefully aimed only at people who are actively working with Al Qaeda, when actually it has violated the rights of countless innocent Americans. And the second was that the Bush team could have prevented the 9/11 attacks if only they had thought of eavesdropping without a warrant. •

Sept. 11 could have been prevented. This is breathtakingly cynical. The nation's guardians did not miss the 9/11 plot because it takes a few hours to get a warrant to eavesdrop on phone calls and e-mail messages. They missed the plot because they were not looking. The same officials who now say 9/11 could have been prevented said at the time that no one could possibly have foreseen the attacks. We keep hoping that Mr. Bush will finally lay down the bloody banner of 9/11, but Karl Rove, who emerged from hiding recently to talk about domestic spying, made it clear that will not happen — because the White House thinks it can make Democrats look as though they do not want to defend America. "President Bush believes if Al Qaeda is calling somebody in America, it is in our national security interest to know who they're calling and why," he told Republican officials. "Some important Democrats clearly disagree."

It seems the editorial board over at the Slimes has been slightly more nutty than usual the past week or so.

The Old Grey Lady sinks further and further into obscurity.

The "New York Times" and "Newsweek" are not monolithic faceless alien oracles.

They are run by the the likes of the leftist homosexual on the right, ARTHUR SULZBERGER JR, and the socialist crook on the left, DONALD GRAHAM, Chair and CEO of Newsweek and Washington Post, son of CATHERINE GRAHAM MEYER, former owner of the Washington Post.

Every day these 2 enemies of the state unleash a horde of minor league propagandists on the American psyche in a blatant attempt to topple any GOP government that is elected by the American people.

They do not care if innocent civilians or soldiers die as a result and national security be damned.

2006 is the year they will be stopped.

They will no longer be able to hide unde a cloak of annonymity.

They will be exposed and their names equated with treacherous acts.

They and their komrades will be surveilled and brought up on charges.

OFFICERS

Chairman Emeritus: Arthur Ochs "Punch" Sulzberger, age 71, $1,397,200 pay (prior to title change)

Chairman; Publisher, The New York Times: Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr., age 46, $960,200 pay (prior to promotion)

VC and SVP: Michael Golden, age 48

President and CEO: Russell T. Lewis, age 50, $882,235 pay (prior to promotion)

SVP Operations and Acting CFO: John M. O'Brien, age 54

SVP and Deputy COO: David L. Gorham, $796,000 pay

This is the face of the enemy.

His name is DONALD NEWHOUSE, billionaire democrat and managing director of the Associated Press, a leftist propaganda organ comitted to undermining the GOP at any cost, including the security of the nation.

I will never forget that day, and will never forget 12/7.

We keep hoping that Mr. Bush will finally lay down the bloody banner of 9/11

I`m sure that they do hope that.

The main reason is because the reality of the evil that was shown on that day is an inconvenience to the advancement of libs political goals.

Able Danger, Senate hearings on the "Domestic wiretap issue", the probe of the leakers in the media as a result of Discovery during the Libby trial, filibuster noise about Judge Allito(sp?), talk of impeachment--Things may be shaping up well for 06.
The President continues his "you want more rope, I'll give you more rope" strategery.
I wish I was as smart as the President (and his advisors),
or that my competitors were this dumb.

There are enough liberals in the country who buy this paper to keep it going. There are too many liberals in my county where democrats cleaned up in the last election.

Some members of the editorial board realize that the NYT is going to go through an "executive selection" process to determine exactly who the people are who are going to stand trial for treason.

Therefore they are attempting to manipulate the jury pool in their favor.

"Name one."

Same thought I had. How can they go so far beyond journalistic integrity and resort to such sweeping and amateurish statements like that?

And what's going on with the NYT/NSA leak probe? After the paper seemed to lay low a bit when this first came out, they've certainly gotten ballsy again.
