Members of U.S. Rep. Martin Meehan's staff have acknowledged they deleted unflattering information about a broken campaign promise from an online encyclopedia, according to a published report.
Content on Wikipedia, an encyclopedia that relies on volunteers to post information, was replaced to remove references to Meehan's broken term limit pledge, the Sun of Lowell reported.
Meehan's chief of staff Matt Vogel told the newspaper that he oversaw the removal last July of information, which was replaced with a staff-written biography.
Meehan, a Lowell Democrat, pledged to serve just four terms -- eight years -- but he later broke that campaign promise. He's currently serving his seventh term.
"Meehan first ran for Congress in 1992 on a platform of reform," the pre-edited entry said, according to the Sun. "As part of that platform Meehan made a pledge to not serve more than four terms, a central part of his campaign. This breaking of the pledge has been a controversial issue in the 5th Congressional district of Massachusetts."

Anyone remember the Contract with America?
L
True. No one IMPORTANT has ever broken any promises before. :0
Sounds like my Rep. Nathan Deal. He promised to serve 6 terms, but he changed his mind stating that "he voted to fund the war."
bttt
Speaking of lies, this was from my critter in 04 (the hearings were never held):
House Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis (R-VA) announced today that the Committee intends to investigate allegations that former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, in preparation for 9-11 Commission hearings, took highly sensitive terrorism documents from a secure reading room at the National Archives.
The Government Reform Committee, which has jurisdiction over the National Archives, is the primary investigative committee in the House of Representatives.
These allegations are deeply troubling, and its our constitutional responsibility to find out what happened and why, Davis said. It boggles the mind to imagine how a former national security advisor walked off with this kind of material in his pants, or wherever on his body he carried it. At best, were looking at tremendously irresponsible handling of highly classified information some of which, I understand, has not yet been located.
At worst, his actions suggest an intentional effort to keep critical information away from the Commission and the American public. We are now left wondering whether the Commission, set to release its report tomorrow, had access to all of the information it needed to fully do its job. The American peoples faith in our review of 9-11, in our war on terror, in our transparency, is literally at stake in this investigation. It is my hope that Mr. Berger cooperates fully with the Justice Department as its investigation proceeds. Meanwhile, as we continue to afford him the presumption of innocence he deserves, we will fulfill our duty to the American people to get to the bottom of this disturbing breach of trust and protocol.
Huh?
The "Swimmer" Teddy, "KetchUp" Johnny, ... "Marr-Tee" Meehan, "Barn-Knee" Frank, ..., etc.
All from Kennedy's feudalistic state of Tax-a-chusetts.
Must be in the water from all of the "Big Dig" leaks!
Yes. Why do you ask?
My congressman, Osama bin-Meehan. Could have been worse, at least I've never been "represented" by Joe Kennedy.
"No one in the state of ____________ is better qualified than I. I know what's best for all of you. I am the smartest person in this state, therefore, vote for me until I decide not to run again."
Unfortunately, not controversial enough to defeat him. He's like Teddy the Swimmer and John LeQuery. They may be disgusting examples of politicians, but they 'bring home the bacon' for the people of Massachusetts, and that's apparently all that 63% of the population of the state care about, because that's usually their percentage of votes in any given election.
That was pulled off the committee website as they went after Steroids in Sports.
I do understand his plight. The district is split and becoming more aligned with the dems all the time.
I'm guessing that a comparison is being drawn between Rep. Meehan's broken promise and the Contract with America. [chuckle]
And again the evil donkey's nose is rubbed in the truth by the new media. They live in the past. In the past the black table-phone media could protect them. That's now ending.
Howie's radio show is one of the very few things I miss in MA...
HAHAHAHA I PUT THAT ON THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
