The stepfather of a 10-year-old girl was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor after she became pregnant, police said.
William Edward Ronca, 26, was being held Friday at the Abbeville County jail.
The girl's mother told The (Greenwood) Index-Journal that she had no idea her daughter was pregnant.
A school guidance counselor told the mother the girl was acting withdrawn and not participating at school. The girl was later taken to Abbeville County Memorial Hospital, where it was discovered she was about seven to eight months pregnant.
Warrants said Ronca had been having sex with the girl for about a year, and told her not to tell anyone.
Ronca has a child with the girl's mother, according to police reports. The couple is getting a divorce.
Ronca was arrested Tuesday.
Great story. I was 12 when they showed us the film in Girl Scouts. I was also 12 when I hit menarche a few months later. Maybe that is how it works! I remember one of the other girls asked the leader if this happened to boys. The leader told us no but they have something like it. Forty years later I am still trying to figure out what she was talking about!
there is NO justice in this country. I know first hand...
It always seems to hit later in boys. From my 13th birthday to my 14th, I grew ten inches in height, ending up at 6' on my 14th birthday. My parents were frantic. I grew out of my clothes almost every month.
The funniest thing was that I was a pudgy kid at 13...5'2" and 150 pounds. On my 14th birthday, I was 6' tall, but still weighed 150 pounds.
My goodness, I was awkward for about a year. I could barely walk without tripping myself on my own feet. Looking back on it, it was funny as the dickens. At the time, it wasn't quite as amusing to me.
Still, my freshman year of high school turned out OK. I had my first girlfriend, who happened to be someone I'd been friends with since kindergarten. I had zits. She had zits. She was awkward. I was awkward. No big deal. We sorta got each other through thoe awkward times, leaving us both a lot better adjusted by the time we moved on to other girls and boys. We remained friends all through high school.
Nice memories.
I think it has to do with all the hormones in beef and chicken and who knows what else. It is astounding to me to see 10 year old girls developing breasts and having periods but it is not uncommon these days. I truly believe the current fat crisis in this country is due to such food additives.
You're so right. This picture says it all, from an article in the Washington Post a few weeks ago. These kids are both 12; the girl is a young woman and the boy is still - a little boy!

"there is no justice in this country...."I agree. All part of the leftist/liberal agenda.Destroy the family unit, institutions, moral and social responsibility,etc...End result is social collapse and anarchy.
"It is astounding to me to see 10 year old girls developing breasts and having periods but it is not uncommon these days."
It was common enough back when I was that age, too, and several others have said the same thing. This isn't some new thing. There have always been 9 and 10 year old girls starting puberty.
In 1955, when I was in fifth grade, my classroom of about 30 kids had at least 4 girls who were visibly entering puberty. In sixth grade, it was about a third of the girls. By 7th grade, when the girls were 12, virtually all of them had entered puberty.
Nothing's really changed that much in 50 years.
That's a cute photo. Neither of them looks particularly unhappy with the situation, either. Thanks for linking to it.
It's so sad that this girl couldn't feel like she could talk to her mother. It's so imperative that children be able to talk about ANYTHING with their parents. This whole situation could have been avoided if she felt she could tell mom from day one what was going on....no matter how much the a-hole threatened her! Now this poor girl has to deal with the guilt of something that was NOT her fault! Shame on mom!
Can't imagine how she could not even KNOW daughter was pregnant! Unreal!
I think it's the estrogen based growth hormones given to cattle to make them bulk up faster.
I guess it all depends on where you were and what your classmates were like. Your experience was certainly different from mine.
Seriously,
The mother probably knew from early on, but chose to either pretend it wasn't happening, blame it on the girl for being, erm, a seductress or worst of all, be grateful that the sexual pressure is off her and now on the daughter.
It's rare that you find a case where Mom was totally clueless during a long term situation. Sorry, guess I'm sounding cynical, but I bet the girl knew pretty early on that Mom wasn't in her corner.
She knew she was totally on her own.
I have read that early puberty is tied to weight and race. Weight really seems to be a big factor.
This unspeakable piece of crud! All of the worst things on earth should happen to him.
That's what makes it all so sad! And you could very well be right about mom turning a blind eye. People like this don't deserve to have children. It just makes me sick when a mother will choose a boyfriend over their own child. I hope she has a lot of sleepless nights to think about what a lousy mom she is!
His experience is not unlike what I remember.
