Abbeville man accused of impregnating 10-year-old stepdaughter

The stepfather of a 10-year-old girl was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor after she became pregnant, police said.

William Edward Ronca, 26, was being held Friday at the Abbeville County jail.

The girl's mother told The (Greenwood) Index-Journal that she had no idea her daughter was pregnant.

A school guidance counselor told the mother the girl was acting withdrawn and not participating at school. The girl was later taken to Abbeville County Memorial Hospital, where it was discovered she was about seven to eight months pregnant.

Warrants said Ronca had been having sex with the girl for about a year, and told her not to tell anyone.

Ronca has a child with the girl's mother, according to police reports. The couple is getting a divorce.

Ronca was arrested Tuesday.

I don't think ideology can affect biological processes. Girls are physically going through puberty younger now than years past. A couple of theories as to why this is happening are 1) better nutrition allows for earlier puberty, 2) synthetic hormones, such as the chemicals in most plastics that mimic estrogen, are kicking off the process earlier.

A ten year old who was 'eight months pregnant" and the mother had no idea? Nor did anyone not notice at about three months along among her teachers? It's outrageous that this child received such neglect from the adults in her life, pariculalry the loathesome 'stepfather'. Loathesome and evil, in fact.

But it's difficult to believe that no one noticed the child's change in behavior and especially appearance. Eight months along at ten years old is significant body size change.

I have read that, too. But I knew a girl when I was young who started at 9. This was in the dark ages of the 60's. I always wondered (not with this girl in particular) if early sexual activity can cause an early maturation of the reproductive organs in younger girls. Such as, perhaps, in this case. Early menarche sometimes just happens. It just seems that many more girls are experiencing it now.

I had a friend whose brother impregnated a girl at that stage of her life. The child was born severely retarded and handicapped.

It was probably the fact that it was her brother that caused the baby to be like that. Inbreeding usually causes problems with the baby.
