The cops at Edgardtown and Martha's Vineyard were not so much corrupt as incompetent and afraid of the Kennedys.
The media went soft on the investigation too.
Thus originated the Senate adage "Don't count your Hatches until they chicken".

Has drunKennedy ever apologised to anyone for leaving Mary Jo Kopechne to drown? Has he ever shown any remorse for it?Not that that would qualify him,in a just world,to serve as a senator. I would find it hard to believe that he ever has,considering that he has no compunction about accusing others falsely of a thing that he is truly guilty of,if anyone could call it being "guilty" to belong to a men-only club(I wouldn't). It's just his hypocrisy in accusing another falsely,of what he has actually done.
God how I despise him. Any rat that wants to chortle over repeatedly sending him to Congress in spite of his history,just doesn't understand that the joke's on them.

Kerry is Kennedy's boy. You can bet that if he runs for pres. again there will be major warfare between the Kennedy machine and the Clinton machine. That would be fun. In fact, I believe that the Kennedy machine is already at work against hillary.

I have an interesting tidbit of information to share. My old college roommate's mother is friends with Judge Alito's mother. They go to the same church in Roseland, New Jersey.
Well, the judge's mother shared something with her that hasn't been in the papers and may bring a different perspective to those tears Alito's wife shed in the hearing.
It seems Judge Alito's wife (the former Martha-Ann Bomgardner) has had personal reasons to dislike Senator Kennedy since long before Splash's shameful treatment of her husband.
Long ago, the Senator was also less than kind to girl whose family was friends with the Bombgardner family. A girl that Martha-Ann knew fairly well before her untimely demise. A girl named Mary Jo Kopechne.
DEAD POSTED Mary Jo Kopechne was born in 1940 while Martha Alito was born in 1953 - thirteen years later. I was told that they were family friends. I have many family friends far more separated from me than 13 years. A family friend could be fifty years separated from you.
Ms. Kopechne was raised in Pennsylvania while Mrs. Alito was raised in Kentucky with family roots in Oklahoma and Texas. I thought that might be a problem with the story too, but it's not:
Martha-Ann Bomgardner was born in Kentucky, but moved to Mount Holly Pennsylvania after her father, an air traffic controller in the Air Force, was transferred to McGuire Air Force Base. She is a 1971 graduate of Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly. Source: PhillyBurbs.com
