A Defeat for Anti-Americanism
The Washington Post ^ | 1/28/06 | Editorial

Posted on 01/28/2006 6:37:20 AM PST by DogBarkTree

ACCORDING TO his opponent, Canadian Conservative Party Leader Stephen Harper exposed "an agenda really drawn from the extreme right in the United States." He favored the Iraq war, opposed the Kyoto treaty on global warming, and is a social conservative to boot. He might just become -- heaven forbid -- "the most pro-American leader in the Western world." His victory would -- O, Canada! -- "put a smile on George W. Bush's face." Despite all those scary warnings, Mr. Harper and his party won Canada's election on Monday. That put an end to 12 years of increasingly incoherent and corrupt rule by the Liberal Party -- as well as the cynical and irresponsible attempt of its leader, outgoing Prime Minister Paul Martin, to use anti-Americanism. Mr. Martin becomes the second G-8 leader in four months to exit from office after discovering that anti-U.S. demagoguery is no longer enough to win an election.>

Come here, Canada; let's kiss and make up. I knew all along that those parasites were driving you crazy. Me too! Do you suppose DDT would get rid of them once and for all? Maybe we both just need a good bath--with Quell Soap--to make us Leftist-free. Or maybe it's a self-terminating infestation. At least we know what the problem is.

Washington Post forgets PM John Howard from Australia. Anti-Kyoto, Pro-Iraq War, Pro Tax Cuts, Conservative governing Australia with a majority in the parliment. His party could pretty much do as they please.

"As for Mr. Martin, perhaps he will be tempted again by the example of Mr. Schroeder, who has taken a job as an agent for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Does Hugo Chavez need another lobbyist?"

This came from the Wash. Post? I about fainted.

Portugal and Poland both elected conservatives recently as well.

I confess I am a bit surprised by the kicker at the end of this editorial:

"As for Mr. Martin, perhaps he will be tempted again by the example of Mr. Schroeder, who has taken a job as an agent for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Does Hugo Chavez need another lobbyist?"

I guess the ComPost editors just couldn't resist.

Yep. No one will read it, but it's still shocking.

I'm shocked that the MSM has barely expounded on this phenomenon.

The headline for this piece is the exact take away I got from the Canadian election. I was amazed at the outcome seeing that their press is even more anti-American than ours.

Does anyone know if Howard's (Australia), Kaczynski's (Poland), or Silva's (Portugal) opponents specifically used an anti-American pandering platform like Martin and Schroeder?

"This came from the Wash. Post? I about fainted"

Actualy when it comes to foreign affairs the Post has been fairly even handed to the Bush administration. They do get the fact that we are at war, unlike the New York Times which has nothing but bile and venom for this president. The Post supported invading Iraq.

Careful there. The WaPo's lower profile makes it more sinister than openly out Left and proud peers like the NYT, IMHO. Remember WaPo's embedded Communist sympathizers who want to take down America.

For what its worth, Chretien went to work for Petro-Kazakhstan, a Canadian oil company that operates mostly in Kazakhstan. Again, for whatever its worth, PK supplies oil to Iran under a swap agreement.

I believe Chretien's daughter is married to the biggest shareholder in what used to be called TotalFinaElf. That's one reason he was so strongly opposed to the Iraq war. Probably there's some connection or affiliation between the companies.
