Coulter Jokes About Poisoning Justice

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, speaking at a traditionally black college, joked that Justice John Paul Stevens should be poisoned.

Coulter had told the Philander Smith College audience Thursday that more conservative justices were needed on the Supreme Court to change the current law on abortion. Stevens is one of the court's most liberal members.

"We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee," Coulter said. "That's just a joke, for you in the media."

Coulter has made a career of writing and lecturing on her strongly conservative views.

At one point during her address, which was part of a lecture series, some audience members booed when she cut off two questioners. "I'm not going to be lectured to," Coulter told one man in a raised voice.

She drew more boos when she said the crack cocaine problem "has pretty much gone away."

If I said what I thought about the liberal justices I'd be banned from FR. Her statement was putting it mildly.

LOL!

You might have some "visitors" sometime soon as well. ; )

It's OK, we know what you think. LOL

We could group the SC justices into three: those in their 50's( Alito, Roberts and Thomas); those in their mid to late 60's( Souter, Kennedy, Breyer, Scalia) and the two oldies( Ginsburg and Stevens)..that's why conservatives have the advantage...I hope Scalia lives up to a hundred though...I would hate to lose him as the moral compass and guide of the three younger conservative justices( Alito might as well be considered one)

I expect the U.S. Marshals Service will be visiting her soon.

Lighten up people....

Coulter immediately disclaimed it as a joke as she knew somebody might take it seriously -- but that is her style.

Would any of you feel differently about the "joke" if it was about Ted Kennedy?

Ann Coulter is becoming the Pat Robertson of political commentators.

I agree with you. A few months ago she made a nasty remark directed toward Ted Kennedy and Chappaquidick on H&C. While none of us here on FR care for Ted Kennedy, she behaved low and mean and I think she deserved the comment she received from Alan Colmes who told her that such comments were beneath her.

If it was a joke it wasn't a funny one. It was a very stupid thing to say.

I agree. No reason to say something like that in a world where she knows it's only gonna cause the kind of controversy that we can really do without. I love Ann's positions, and she's very bright, but IMO she should think a little more about some of the things she says.

She could also do much better than she is/does. IMO she's not maximizing her talents and opportunities.

It was Julianne Malvou and she was talking about Justice Thomas.

Let's run this down a bit. In one outburst she gives cover to all the leftists who keep talking about killing the president, wishing him dead, etc. It was a heavy handed brutal joke at best (rat poison?). She is showing zero class, and I suggest she never had any. That remark should be roundly condemned. Even if a joke, an evil one.

And just to make it personal, I posted years ago that I didn't think Coulter was all that intelligent a conservative spokesperson. At that time it drew a torrent of cat calls, but Coulter has been an embarrassment more than once now.

Ann should have learned by now. No matter how obvious it is you are joking, you know the comment will be played as a serious comment for the rest of her life. She already made this mistake with the comment about killing Muslims and/or converting them to Christians.

That was Malouvx, but she was speaking of Clarence Thomas.

I know Coulter likes to go for shock value, but comments like this are stupid and counter-productive. If a lib had said something similar about Scalia, for example, we'd be furious, and rightfully so.

Dumb move, Ann.

Totenberg wished AIDS upon Jesse Helm's grandchildren. Julliane Malvoux (sp?) wished a heart attack upon Clarence Thomas through his wife feeding him high fat foods.

The truth can be offensive. However, just because you are offensive doesn't mean that you are effectively telling the truth. Ann should probably learn the difference. *prepares to dodge massive ordinance* :o)

This is mere rhetoric... and at the same time she talks about the direction of the country, not to be taken lightly. Don't forget people have revolutions over things like the direction of a country... she know this very well. Some people here don't understand this...

Bad taste... whatever, her point is well taken...

Conservatives since the Income Tax have been wanting and fighting for a change in the courts.

I'm sorry, but it wasn't funny, there was no punchline or humor to make it a joke, and there are some things you can't disclaim away. If I were to call someone's wife a word that rhymes with bore and said "it's a joke", would her husband be out of line to get angry? I don't think so.

Ann keeps pushing the envelope and I think she's lost her sense of judgment.

No, I don't think a joke about feeding Ted Kennedy rat poison would be funny. There are too many reasons for this to list here, but how would you feel if it became fair game for famous people to "joke" about you being killed? A bit frightening, no? Because there are unstable people out there, because it was a crude comment. Because there is nothing funny about "somebody should put rat poison in his food" no matter who the subject is. It's a grade school level comment, at best. And gee, because she should know better IF she has the brains to know better.
