WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid admitted on Friday he and fellow Democrats lack the votes to block President George W. Bush's nomination of conservative appeals judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In other news, sky still blue...water still wet.
No, clintoon is siding wit the windsurfer. They are simply playing to their base. To the other 90% of Americans they simply look foolish.
Note to Harry: DUH.
Al JaReuters said this?
I'd love to see John 'DYKIWTV&C' Kerry do his immatation of Jimmy Stewart in "Mr. Smith goes to Washington". Imaging having to have all the networks cover live four or five days of Kerry rambling away. Tim Russert and Greorge Sunffuluffogous would melt trying to cover the situation.
They are so pathetic.
But to paraphrase, What benefits a man if he gains all the blue bits but loses the red?
Apparently, John Kerry still doesn't get the message. He's just postponed his visit to Northern Ireland, and is rushing back to Washington to lead the (non-existent) filibuster.

If you read it closely, Mrs."BJ" Clinton did NOT side with Kerry.......what she said is the dems "MAY" filibuster, as the only means to stop the evil Bush........she went on to say, however, that she was not sure if SHE supported filibuster. IOW, Mrs. "BJ" Clinton, as usual, was talking out of both sides of her nasty piehole.
This really just shows the selfishness of Kerry. The democrat party will suffer as a result of this ill-fated attempt. But Kerry is willing to hurt his party if it improves his chances of capturing the '08 nomination. Hillary Clinton is the one that is in bad shape as a result of this attempt. She now has no choice but to support the filibuster or she loses the wackos she needs for the nomination. But supporting an Alito filibuster puts a serious hitch in her triangulation tactics of trying to sound "moderate".
Simply seeing Kerry attempt to read something he hasn't been coached through would be entertaining, say, "Atlas Shrugged."
Kerry's rushing home for this? Oh good grief, that's precious. Dudley Flipright of the Royal French Cavilry to the rescue.
Alito is so in.
This guy has the political instincts of Jimmy Carter.
Yes, they can.
According to the time table I've seen a vote on cloture will occur at 4:30 p.m., on Monday, January 30, 2006. After a sucessful cloture vote they can still have 30 hours of debate.
I'm in agreement with what you say, for the most part; but if the hardcore freaks in their party really loom large in capturing the nomination, why didn't Dean win in '04? The far left loons were very unhappy with Kerry and wanted Dean, Clark or Kucinich. None of whom got very far in the primaries. Kerry won nearly all the primaries.
Justice Alito. It just rolls off the tongue. It's a great day.
