AMMAN (AFP) - Jordan's King Abdullah II called for a "rapid return" to Middle East peace talks after the shock Palestinian election victory by the Islamist movement Hamas, which advocates the destruction of Israel
"Whatever the results of (Wednesday's parliamentary) election," the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel remains "the only solution for establishing peace and putting an end to violence and extremism," Abdullah said during a visit with French MPs in Amman.
The Jordanian king also called on both sides to "rapidly return to peace negotiations" and said that "the coming years will be decisive for the Palestinians," according to a statement issued by the royal palace.
"The Palestinian people have the right to establish an independent state, which is the only way to create a just peace in the region," he said.
The Jordanian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood congratulated Hamas on its victory and called on states to "respect the choice of the Palestinian people."
Abdullah should just shut up.
Why revive "peace" talks with a country advocating the destruction of another country?
No I think not. Instead, how about all out war with HAMAS? I would like that much better.
If they ever let Jews work in Arab lands, I'm going into the fortune telling business.
Somehow I can always tell what they are going to say ahead of time.
And don't you dare say it's because no matter what they always say the same thing.
From the Hashemite perspective, better Israel than Jordan.
I agree and I've been puzzled. It seems like the first four years of Bush the policy was not to talk to the Pali's but that a war was only won when you'd killed your enemies or they'd lost their will to fight. I honestly felt like this was the understanding and the policy.
And then we got into the @#^& middle-east "peace process" again.
Since when has talking solved a war? Why do we keep forgetting Neville Chamberlain? We truly need large scale destruction to the point that they're mostly all dead or so crushed that they won't fight. Period.
But we've gotten so squishy in the last 60 years that we can't even recognize what war is....
True --- and never in our history have we had so many potential allies, supporters, apologists and activists that support our enemy......IN OUR COUNTRY... Including most of MSM..
