Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito picked up his second Democratic supporter on Thursday, with Tim Johnson of South Dakota announcing he will vote for the conservative judge to become the nation's 110th justice.

Johnson joins fellow Democrat Ben Nelson of Nebraska as the only members of their party to announce Senate support for the conservative judge.

LOL. Even Dashole would have had to vote for Alito.

Yep, Timmy can just ask little Tommy Daschle. He's still deeply saddened that he lost his senate seat.

This is too funny. Nelson would have voted for Alito without an election as he has voted with Republicans a lot. When is the last time Johnson cast such a vote?

Very true. Little Tommy would have been forced by Thune to vote in favor of a Bush nominee too. Sucks to be a Dem.

Johnson had to steal his last election. He wants a little more breathing room next time.

I have been wondering the same thing too. What is going on here? Where are the rest of the dems??

The Y column keeps going up, and the N column has been staying the same.

We are screwed! =====================================================

No democrat up for re-election any time soon, in a state that is not in the bastions of the NE or West Coast will vote against Alito...

You can't argue that, one of, if not the, most qualified nominee in history, who has been unanimously approved by congress to the federal bench twice in the past is somehow a threat to America.

By the time of the vote, Alito will have many more Dems crossing the isle.

I have noticed that the media keeps referring to Alito as "conservative." I wonder if they kept referring to the radical Ginsberg as "radical" or "left."

I heard the democrat senator from Nebraska being interviewed the other day and he seems to be leaning toward Alito.

Any guesses how Liberman will vote???
There ARE a few respectable Democrat Senators left ... they are FEW and FAR -- VERY VARY -- between but they DO still exist. My guess would be that there will be no more than 5 Democrat Senators who will vote for Alito ... mostly due to politics but, in a couple of cases, out of true decency and an understanding of the Senate's role in this as "consenting" NOT "deciding."

59 votes now to break a potential filibuster.

Tim Johnson is worried about 2008 when he might face super-popular Republican governor, Mike Rounds.
