Millions of men hide behind the dark cloud of depression and it could allow the problem to snowball out of control, according to then National Institute of Mental Health. Mental health experts also said men are less likely than women to seek help with their problem.
A man accused of murdering his twin daughters is behind bars at a maximum security prison under suicide watch. David Crespi was moved to Central Prison in Raleigh Monday.
That move cancelled his two court appearances scheduled in Charlotte. Now 6NEWS heard from Crespi's family that he had been suffering from depression and mental illness.
Experts said more women suffer from depression than men. It could have something to do with human biology, but fewer men seek treatment because of their principals about being a man.
Pride, I had the same problem. I can handle it no problem. I can deal with the pressure. There comes a point where you can't deal with the pressure, said one man who is seeking treatment for depression.
The man did not want to be identified because of his high powered job. But he says the stress of that job is part of the reason he's seeing a psychiatrist for depression and anxiety.
The hardest part was finally saying I need help. I couldn't do it anymore and so finally it was out of desperation ........
But more men commit suicide.
WE ARE MANLY MEN< NO DOCTORS FOR US.
...about the headline...
Oh, I don`t feel so good, whine, whine, whine
How do I feel now, oh, I`m just fine. We don`t need to waste the money on a doctor that is just going to tell me to stay in bed. Kids gone, want to play?
I`m, sorry, I just fell a sleep, I`m fine but maybe we should see about the doctor tomorrow.
That was me, sports fans, for 40 years. Drove her nuts
But he had been under treatment for years, and haven't I read more stories about women killing their children?
Yes.
I wonder if men or women have more principles about using correct English?
Al Gore would beg to differ ....
What gives here...?
I am starting to miss global warming, as now every other day I read about why I am so dysfunctional as determined by the truly insane.
IMO you have to be near crazy to go on reading documents about why you are a loon, documents written by certifiably insane researchers who have never spent a day outside a publicly funded university.
When the "principal" writer is named Tiffani, what do you expect? (I prefer the spelling Typhaknee, myself.)
More men succeed in committing suicide. When a woman attempts suicide it is usually a cry for help and she may subconsciously botch the job so that she survives and gets the help. A man, on the other hand, isn't usually so wishy-washy in his decision making. If a man decides to off himself then that is what he'll do.
The Crespi twins have been on my mind every day now. Such a sad, sad situation for that family.
One thing that was brought out in a news story yesterday was that there was definite premeditation of the murders. Kimberli (the wife/mom) left home at 12:15 pm for her haircut appointment. The children's TOD was reported by the ME as 12:30 pm and David Crespi called 911 at 12:45 pm. Very little time elapsed before he started stabbing the first child.
Because this man had been so nice for many years, there are many, many "Prozac-defense" type apologists speaking out on his behalf and blaming the drugs. I haven't "gotten there" yet and would like to hear more of the story. It's bad enough that a judge has sealed the 911 call he made, saying it would jeopardize his right to fair trial.
The Mecklenburg Co. jail rejected him the first night because of his "medical condition" and police brought him back several hours later, at which time he was booked. Press reports didn't know where he was in the meantime, but speculated he was in a hospital of some type.
About the time of the girls' funeral, 2PM Tuesday, he was taken to the prison psych hospital in Raleigh, on "Level II" suicide watch, with 24/7 supervision and a big window to his room. Around 800 people attended the twins' funeral; they were buried in one coffin together with each one's favorite doll; the mother was strong enough to speak at the funeral and talked of the "dark impulses" being gone from their house now and two angels in their place.
I'm still reserving judgment and hoping to hear more from police and ME's.
real men don't go mad. they get loco.
Why doesn't the good doctor just suggest that all men be castrated. Fng liberal bastard bliss ninny
Women are carriers
I've known three men like this. Seriously depressed, damaging their lives as a result of it, but absolutely refusing to talk to a doctor, go to church, or take medication.
My father was wretched and angry at the world for many years until his doctor wrote him a prescription for Paxil. He didn't know it was an antidepressant and took it anyway. Bingo! We got our loving, charming, warm, sweet, patient father back, and the hostile, ugly stranger was gone. Fortunately he did not use the Paxil as an excuse to kill anybody.
The other two men did not seek help of any kind, and today just ricochet from one sorrow to another to another.
