SALISBURY, Md. Authorities say the 36-year-old Virginia man arrested last night after a series of arsons in Salisbury is a firefighter in the Tidewater area.
The Norfolk Fire and Rescue department says it has suspended David Parks of Onancock, Virginia, without pay after the arrest.
He's been charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of first-degree arson and four counts of second-degree arson for four fires. They caused nearly 250-thousand dollars damage.
The Maryland state fire marshal's office says the fires were set between 9:30 p-m and 11:30 p-m in a car near an antiques store and a two-story duplex.
Norfolk fire officials say he had been reassigned in recent weeks to administrative duties after a drunk driving arrest in December.

Ping!
Firebugs in volunteer fire departments--it is far more common than is appreciated. Pedophiles go where the kids are--pyromaniacs go where the fires are. Fire departments--beware.
Right....Onan was the guy who "spilleth his seed upon the ground".
That's exactly what most of these pyromaniacs do as they watch their, uh, handiwork.
This was not a volunteer firefighter.
Anyone managing any kind of fire department (I always think of volunteers, since I am rural) needs to keep his eyes peeled for these nuts--
We were discussing this at the Moose Lodge tonight.......we just lost one of our local VFD fire houses, and while the cause is still under investigation, arson is a word used in most every conversation. The fire marshalls have been investigating a number of suspicious fires, and some obvious arsons, here in Accomack County since before the new year.
The fire that destroyed the firehouse occurred while the Fire Company was responding to another alar, which I heard tonight has been declared arson.
This particular person was kicked out of another local VFD some years ago, because of suspicion of him being an arsonist.
Thanks, Justanobody for the heads up on this thread.
You're right, but your sentence should read This was not a volunteer firefighter, any longer.
...........please read my post #7
Onnancock is nearly 75 miles from Salisbury, as well as Norfolk.
He worked in the wrong profession. If he was employed by the public school system he would have been suspended with pay.
You are absolutely correct.
This guy lives in the same area I live in. The nearest VFD firehouse to me is the one destroyed by fire last week. I can seriously relate to this story.
And the stories I heard this evening about this guy that was arrested, let's just say writing about it right now is raising the hair on the back of my neck.
Not living around here.
Be aware and be safe my FRiend!
I wonder what his motive was. I've heard of pyromaniac fire fighters setting fires so they could go out on the call to put them out. Norfolk is quite a distance from Salisbury. I think there must be more to this story.
Fire for hire.
Thanks, my FRiend.
This guy's name has been coming up for quite a while, and it really started coming up after the Bloxom firehouse fire last week.
This guy lives about equi-distant between Salisbury and Norfolk, around 75 miles to each.
I heard a story tonight about this guy setting a fire in a small grocery store many years ago.....it couldn't be proved he did it, but he was the last person seen emerging from the paper product aisle and exiting the store before the fire was seen by a cashier. Lighter fluid had been sprayed all over the paper towels and toilet paper.
I don't say this to suggest that he didn't do it. I don't see any reason to suspect he didn't. I'm just curious why he chose that location. As a fire fighter, and a pyromaniac, I would expect him to set fires in his own district, where he could be present at the blaze. That doesn't appear to be the case here, so I'm wondering what other reason he could have had for choosing that location. Maybe he had a grudge? I'm not talking about why he sets fires in the first place. That seems pretty simple. Because he's a pyromaniac.
As I said this is all speculation on my part. I don't understand the mindset of people that will do things like this.
The VFD that lost their firehouse last week also lost both of their ambulances, it has been a major blow not only to them, but to the entire area.
Thanks for the Ping, I hadn't heard about this.
