Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., today called current U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas an "abomination" when compared with the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.
Marshall, the first black appointed to the Supreme Court, was the lead litigator on the historic 1954 school desegregation case and, as a justice, a champion of civil rights. He died in 1993.
Thomas was the second black appointed to the Supreme Court, and he succeeded the retiring Marshall in 1991 after being nominated by the first President George Bush. Thomas' televised confirmation hearings captured the nation's attention when Professor Anita Hill accused him of sexual harassment, a charge he denied.
As a justice, Thomas has been a staunch conservative who supports states' rights and opposes abortion and affirmative action.
Salazar's comment about Thomas came during a telephone news conference in which said he would not be part of any possible Democratic filibuster to stop a vote on the confirmation of Samuel Alito as a member of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Because Salazar is a racist.
Didn't Pete support gay marriages or something having to do with homosexuals?
I don't think so.
I'm not a Coloradan.
"The girl professed ignorance to the fact that he made the statement and I told her I thought her boss was a racist and that his comment was obscene."
Good going. I will do the same tomorrow.
I just got home and it's 6:30 mst.
Thanks for the information, I had not heard that before.
What a disgusting thing to say.
"What a disgusting thing to say."
Yup.
They had him coming and going.
I completely disagree.
Bob Schaffer's campaign didn't have to put out anything
about Coors Beer being extremely gay friendly, they
advertised in all the Out Front mags, and sponsored Gay Pride
Parades as well as Coors paying for employee abortions.
Shaffer would have been great against Salazar - very clear cut
differences yet both somewhat rural candidates.
Mr. Coors got into the race after the kingmakers decided who
should be the candidate.
You might want to Google that and read what the Gay community thinks of Pete Coors & Coors.
I tried to warn everyone within earshot in '04 that Coors would be a train wreck. Just having money and a "name" isn't necessarily enough to ensure a win. I grit my teeth every time that Salazar twit opens his mouth, because Bob Schaffer would've held this seat for the GOP.
Who else but a 'moron' would support Salazar...duhhhhhhh!?!
Thank you for your interesting response to my question about Justice Thomas. His philosophical reason makes sense--good for him! He needn't worry about his spoken language. He was quite eloquent during his unfortunate confirmation hearing.
Ain't that the truth.
I'll leave the topic of Coors to the Colardans on this board. Clearly I'm out of my depth.
CO...Feinstein has a home in Aspen. Just a bit of information to explain the creeping liberalism in what used to be a very conservative state.
Illegal aliens voted in CO. For Salazar.
Too many Kalifornian's migrating in will make it Kolorado - sooner than later!
