Democrats in Md. Try to Limit Fallout Of Gay Union Case

Maryland Democrats concerned about the political fallout from last week's court ruling on same-sex marriage are considering a plan to block any final court ruling from taking effect until after the November elections.

The proposal would be offered in legislation by Del. Luiz R.S. Simmons (D-Montgomery) that would freeze any decision from the state's highest court until the General Assembly has time to evaluate it.

"What we're trying to do is see if we can craft a bill allowing the legislature to seek an injunction, at least until 2007, when we'll have the opportunity to consider a constitutional amendment" banning same-sex marriage, Simmons said.

Although many Democrats, including Simmons, said they support the rights of gays and lesbians to marry, they also said they recognize that the ruling could hurt the party during key elections this year -- the governor's office and a U.S. Senate seat are at stake.

At least the democrats can rely on their strength of convictions!

Just being politicians. Show me a politician that relies on the strength of his convictions who doesn't live in a district which guarantees reelection.

What's to evaluate? Marriage - between one man and one woman.

They have no convictions, of course, and it is delightful to watch Mike Miller and the others wiggle and squirm on this issue. I think it would be ungracious of the Republicans to seek to impeach Judge Murdock. They ought to give her a medal!!!

As Rush says... RATS have to lie, lie, lie to the voters to stay in power. They can never be honest about their agenda.

Too funny! Even the dummie dems realize their "homosexual rights" issues are losers for them. It's tough to try to pander to a miniscule percentage of voters (homosexuals) while not alienating the vast majority.

So they are for it -- and against it?

During the 2004 election year, it seemed that court rulings in favor of same-sex marriage got a lot of air time, and we saw a high conservative voter turnout.

Is it me not catching the news at the right time or are the media and/or gay marriage proponents downplaying this ruling so as to not have a repeat (high conservative turnout) in 2006? I haven't seen jack-squat on the news and some of the comments in the article suggest they are downplaying things.....

So they are for it -- and against it?

They are against being accountable to the electorate for being for it.

I'd sure like to see a score board of where each of the 50 states are on this.

The dopey evil donkey, feeling his oats in Maryland, has gone insane. They are licking the shoes of the afl-cio with their unconstitutional "Walmart Law" and are drunk with power after over riding a hated Republican governor's veto.
But this has led them to try their hand at getting a gay "marriage" bill past. Now that the genie is out of the bottle and can't be put back in, they are sobering up and looking just around the corner at November. No matter how they will try to wiggle and dance, they will not be able to scrub their fingerprints off of this effort. It will put Mike Steele over the top. Already stupid queasy no sefume has said he supports gay "marriage". Study after study shows that as a group Blacks are the MOST resistant to gay "marriage". Hee hee hee!
