Good morning once again, all you fellow political junkies. Put on a fresh pot of coffee, put the sticky buns in the oven, put a fresh battery in the remote control, and join us for the latest episode of the world's greatest daytime soap opera, "As the Democrats Bloviate." Yup, once again, it's that time...
No vote yet - just informal tally of stands taken in open Senate or other formal venue. At any rate, Nelson of NE is the only turncoat so far.
A simple majority will confirm the nominee, once the Senate gets to the vote. There will be plenty of talk regarding getting to 60 votes to overcome the threat of "not voting even though we should."
Bah...I have to say that I didn't watch all of Hairball...but, during Patty Murray I turned over..
And, Dana Milbank..and Ann Kornblut (sp) of the NYTimes were on discussing Hillary...
When Chrissy showed that new poll that says that ONLY 16% said they would definitely vote FOR her....but, 51% said they would definitely NOT vote for her...
EVERY one of them said "well, it is early....it depends on how the question was answered....she is busy running for Sen"....
FINALLY, something to laugh about today!!
Someone should call Byrd to make sure he knows that a vote to confirm a SC nominee is about to take place. I'm not sure he knows what is going on here.
The only thing Fox is carrying is there is two reports and it has to do with the Army, staffing, them being worn out, etc... one was done by the Pentagon itself and one outside the Pentagon and both came to the same conclusion, which Rummy said he doesn't totally discount, that we have a large Army, but it wasn't laid out to be a "fighting" Army and was, instead, a buracratic Army and that is what they have been trying to fix for the past five years.
If "hypothetically" the next POTUS election boiled down to Santorum or Clinton...who would you vote for??
LOL. Thanks, that gave me a good laugh too. All depends on whose ox is being gored.
Read my post 1786 reply to Howlin about it... this is all I really know, is what Fox has been reporting today, I imagine Bret will talk about it here in a few minutes.
He didn't win "handily" if he came up 1% short.
He would have won the state....
You're contradicting yourself
Arlen, who you can't count on for anything.
On the issue of Alito, he's right on the mark.
It was the most STUPID move I've ever seen.
You on the other hand seem to be stuck in neutral.
I loved the way he characterized it as having more tail than teeth and needing to reverse that.
I love Jon Kyle! Wish we got cspan 2
I think he's playing banana bingo at the local Seasoned Citizens Hall.
Have you tried to stream it?
Did they leave out the number of Republicans who said they would slit their wrists before they would vote for her? It was huge!
Don't you know he'd love to take that back?
What did he say???
I know this thread is supposed to be about the Alito confirmation....but I've been curious to know who my fellow freepers and consevatives think should run in 08 on the Republicn ticket.
I know its early...but who do you guys think are some up-and-comers or early favorites for the nomination?
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Secretary of Defense William Perry, both members of the Clinton administration, were credited among the authors of the study that congressional Democrats released.
