Pat Leahy Labeled 'Abramoff Democrat'

While national Democrats are calling the Jack Abramoff lobbying imbroglio a "Republican scandal," top Vermont Democrat, Sen. Pat Leahy, is being labeled an "Abramoff Democrat" by home state critics.

The Vermont Guardian has uncovered thousands of dollars in contributions to Leahy by lawfirms linked to Abramoff - though the senator's spokesman says that any suggestion of a relationship to the disgraced Republican is ridiculous.

"It’s preposterous to even think that Jack Abramoff would do anything to support a progressive Democratic leader like Patrick Leahy," Ed Pagano, Leahy’s chief of staff, told the paper.

However, the Guardian says it has discovered that Leahy "received thousands of dollars from attorneys at Preston, Gates, Ellis, Meeds and Rouvelas, and Greenberg Traurig, the two high-powered legal firms where Abramoff hung his hat."

I LOVE how the dems and msm are nuancing this story--as if the money Abramoff gave from his own pocket and the money he simply siphoned to politicians are two COMPLETELY separate things. What's next, if we found out that Saddam had siphoned money to the Bush 2000 campaign, would the dems say "Oh, well that's nothing, it's not like it came from his own pocket."

I would venture to guess that Abramhoff's money is in the hands of many bipartisan legislators.

It seems that Abramoff was an equal opportunity opportunist! Wouldn't it be great if Leahy were indicted for accepting bribes for his votes?

Sure. Why buy someone who's already on your side?

There are many ways to buy politicians, and most of them can be bought cheap. They are into retail fundraising, and they made the rules so they can be bought. It is legal in most cases, and I suspect most of it is here.

A vote is a vote, a lobbyist is usually very pragmatic about who's vote he lobbies (buys) for.

I heard that Dewey, Cheatham and Howe are also staunch backers of Leahy.

So much for Howie Dean's "NOT ONE DEMOCRAT" lie....didn't take very long to prove Howard as runner-up for compulsive liar award....just behind BJ Clinton.

Leahy's head is not in a jar, unless the jar has already been inserted in his anus.

Howard Dean is an IMPULSIVE liar, going off half cocked.

Clinton (both of them actually) are COMPULSIVE liars who go off fully cocked!

snicker snicker

No, that would only happen if the money went to the Kerry campaign. Like the money Clinton apparently got from Red China, which was no big deal to the MSM but would have destroyed any Republican.

That's about every time they open their mouths! You'd think they'd be less inclined to garner so much press, but I suppose you have to be compusively stupid to seek a leadership position in a party of jackasses.

Senator Leahy, are they your fingers in the cookie jar?

Impossible.

This is a Republican 'only' scandel.

Only the corrupt Republicans accepted $$ from Abramoff.

Democrats would never lower themselves that far down into into the cesspool.

Only Republicans do that.

What, you don't watch the MSM TV experts?

Get with it, man.
