Today, President Bush welcomed Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to the Oval Office where the two discussed the relationship between the two countries, and made a joint statement to the press. Later in the day, President Bush welcomed 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart to the South Lawn of the White House where they posed for a photo op with the Nextel Cup Champion team (and the winning Chevrolet !) He also met with West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin in the Oval Office, whose legislative proposals to improve mine safety have passed by the West Virginia Senate unanimously.

Today, the Senate Committee voted along party lines to send the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Senate floor for confirmation.

Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island and the Daily Dose!

I'm a big fan of Jane Austen too. We read Pride and Prejudice in my English AP class in high school and everyone else thought I was weird because I finished reading it WAY before we had to and then I reread it several more times before anyone else had even finished it. I love that book especially but I love the others too.

Mike, I NEED, badly, copies of the President's speech yesterday.....for a Canadian friend, who lives in US, and takes advantage of ALL of the benefits....who sent me an email video of a bunch of President Bush's verbal flubs, and the ugly comments of her friends....I want to send her an actual SPEECH, since I'm sure neither she, nor her friends, have ACTUALLY LISTENED to the WORDS.....could you ping me if you get it....thank you so much.

Reading literature such as that is doing a lot to help fashion you into an expressive writer and speaker. Not to mention the enjoyment it brings.

"No improper pride"...........PREACH it, Elizabeth!

VERY appropriate comparison, Gretchen. Oft misunderstood qualities in both George and Fitzwilliam. :)

"Tony, if you get any fatter you're not gonna fit in this car."

Ain't that the truth. I'm surprised Coach Gibbs doesn't already have Tony on an exercise regimen.

I agree. His little sister's death was life-changing, and gave him a deeper value of life.............even in the young and helpless.

GOOD point!

I completely agree. He IS fresh......and looks completely trustworthy.

That's why the left's attempt to vilify him fell flat and made them look like idiots.

I've always loved to read. I was the dorkiest kid :) Usually the only thing I got in trouble for was staying up late so I could finish reading a book. It was hard for my mom not to laugh at that. She didn't really want to punish me for reading.

Of course, with the vast majority of the left, it doesn't take much to make them look like idiots, because they kind of are. (Insert snarky, superior sound here. LOL.)

In any case, thanks for the good dose tonight. I spent too much time here last night marveling at Susan Estrich's "work" and am trying to be a less distracted participant in my family tonight, so I'm out of here!

Hope you have a terrific evening!

I bet she'd like to burn most of the books I have now....David Frum and Ann Coulter and Tommy Franks. I just ordered Rebel in Chief too. My mother would be horrified :)
