Today, President Bush welcomed Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to the Oval Office where the two discussed the relationship between the two countries, and made a joint statement to the press. Later in the day, President Bush welcomed 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart to the South Lawn of the White House where they posed for a photo op with the Nextel Cup Champion team (and the winning Chevrolet !) He also met with West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin in the Oval Office, whose legislative proposals to improve mine safety have passed by the West Virginia Senate unanimously.
Today, the Senate Committee voted along party lines to send the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Senate floor for confirmation.

every detractor should see yesterday's speech, it was a window into our President's soulI'm beginning to think his detractors don't HAVE souls, Mike. And they wouldn't recognize a soul if they saw one....

To tell you the truth, I haven't read or heard a thing about it.
It must have been private.

Amen Mike, I know many on this website like my PM but the contrast to me yesterday with how he conducted himself at his press conference and how GWB does was so markedly different. The bottom line I feel is integrity, honesty and above all motive.

I am fine but this cold weather is playing dad's angina up and unfortunately he had to go out today for a blood test.
He has to get a full blood test before visiting a consultant in about 10 days and if he left it any longer the test results probably would not be ready as it is such an extensive test in all they took 5 samples.

That sounds like swagger envy to me.
Not that W is overly confident or boastfully proud. He's, to quote Jane Austen, possessed of "no improper pride."

You know, Alito is really "cute" in a nerdy kind of way. Very fresh. Almost naive.
I know that is a funny thing to say about a grown man, but it's a look that is very unusual in DC.

Absolutely, Mike ... I, also, think it was his best speech, and I hope and pray he goes out of the Beltway for these speeches on a regular basis. It makes a HUGE difference.

I'm an austenaholic. ;-) And an unrepentant one. I try to read all of her books at least once a year. The stories don't wear out and I see new things with every reading.
The other thing I love about her is that she must have had a mind full of light and cheer because if I am feeling low, and read her books, I always get a pick-me-up from it. Reading her books just before I fall asleep is a mental balm for me.
I can imagine her snickering at this or that turn of phrase as they rolled off her pen.

I would think losing someone close to you when you are so young would leave you with 1)a lifelong appreciation for life or 2)depression.....seems our President chose the first! (My MIL chose the 2nd, unfortunately.)
