Yep...and it's claimed that they can go 15,000 rounds without changing barrels. Sure would've liked that when I was humpin' the Pig (couldn't resist) and when I was AG.

ElectricStrawberry, how many rounds do the older M60s handle before changing barrels? Also, is the M60 still a standard combat weapon or has it been replaced? Thanks for your answers.

Service replaced the M60, post gulf war, with the M249 SAW...I think.

I once had an A-gunner insist on standing on the right side of the gun when I was doing air-guard, in the back hatch of a 113. I filled his shirt with casings, and he had a nice cross-hatched pattern of welts on his stomach after he got done trying to run backwards out through the side armor and dumped all the casings out of his shirt.

OK, if my math is correct, the M80 ball weighs 392 grains=.9 ounces. .9 ounces x 850 rounds=765 ounces or 47.8 pounds of lead! That's going to leave a mark!

To demonstrate the reliability of his new machine gun, John Browning fired an M1917 machine gun CONTINUOUSLY for 45 minutes stratight without a single failure. If you figure the engineered firing rate of 600 rpm, you get 27,000 rounds.
