Has FOX News already changed the Canadian political landscape?

OTTAWA, November 18, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission announced approval of the conservative-leaning Fox News for Canadian viewers Thursday.

Globe and Mail columnist James Adams described Fox News as "the Canada-baiting house organ of the U.S. right," and "the unofficial official voice of the Bush administration." Adams decried Fox's commentator Bill O'Reilly for his condemnation of Canada's Globe and Mail as "a far-left newspaper."

I hop you are right. A canadian friend of mine (admittedly a lib) indicatd that he thought this didn't represent a "sea change" in canadian politices, only a protest vote against liberal corruption. His implication is that in the next vote, the libs will be back in power. He may be right. Course that may just be a loser's sour grapes.

Tom Oliphant unemployed? I hadn't heard.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving low-life-leftist!

I read somewhere yesterday that the scandal was broken on a blog called Captain's Quarters. And don't forget FreeDominion.ca, too!

It wasn't Fox News, nor was it the corruption scandal that brought down the liberals in Canada.

IT WAS KARL ROVE!

You're giving Fox News way, way, way too much credit.

First off -- there wasn't that great a shift in the popular vote -- Conservatives 36.25%, Liberals 30.22% NDP (Socialists) 17.49% -- still pretty left wing.

I’d give the Internet more credit than Fox News. Other important factors:
• Unification of the right-of-center parties to end the vote splitting on the right (happened too soon before the last election to have the desired effect);
• Grass-roots organization;
• Liberal corruption or “sense of entitlement” finally became too blatant for many voters – they’re still lefties, but wanted to clean house;
• An incredibly bad election campaign on the part of the Liberals – it will probably be put in textbooks as an example of what not to do;
• The National Post – a fairly conservative national newspaper has more influence amongst thinking conservatives than Fox News.

That said, Fox probably helped to some extent – which is doubtless why the Liberals kept it out for so long.

If anything, Ailes and Murdock ought to start a Fox News Canada. I've seen quite a few conservative Canadians from the media on shows like O'Reilly and I've read their stuff in various forums and publications. Make it a net that focuses on Canada of course but mix in some of the Fox stuff from Fox News USA including some of the Foxes that work at Fox News.

I know the CBC is a leftist tool for the Liberanos in Canada and I used to watch it often on Newsworld International until it became the dull and boring Algore channel here in the states. Sometimes I'll watch it online because they do a heck of better job than any of the US news networks at covering international news without instantly blaming the USA for the worlds problems.

Good News, if true. And why shouldn't it be. It's better to light a candle than to curse (or live in) the darkness. Especially in a frozen hole like Canada.

bump usually is shorthand for
"bump to the top"...in other words, it puts the thread title back on
the "latest posts" board so more people are likely to see it.

Occassionally you'll see "bump for publicity" or "bump for later read".
The former is an explicit statement of wishing to publicize the thread,
the latter just to make a short-term "bookmark", so they can find it
later in their "pings" list.

Don't worry...I was still figuring out this stuff after my first year
in the forum.

you're right...I'm sure there are tons of other "factors" (pun intended) that came into play besides FNC.

Hopefully the Conservatives will avoid the same mistakes or I'm sure they'll be dealt with similarly.

It is not news that socialism requires limiting access to information and distorting/lying to the masses.

Aldus Huxley was quite a good prophet in describing the mainstream media presently in the "free" world.
