In ancient cultures that celebrated paganism and immorality, our ancestors stood up and apart. In the midst of a culture that devalues human life, we should be doing no less
The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision concerning Oregon's physician-assisted suicide law was really about whether a federal drug-control law provided a U.S. Attorney General the authority to punish a state's doctors for acting in accordance with a state statute. But by contending that physician-assisted suicide is a "legitimate medical purpose" for the prescription of a drug, there can be little doubt that the ruling helped bring the idea of abetting suicide a bit closer to mainstream thinking. That's a deeply unfortunate thing.
As it happened, the decision came exactly seven days after a New Jersey nurse who has confessed to killing 29 people decided to stop cooperating with investigators. Charles Cullen maintains that he has killed up to 40 people, many of them old and ailing hospital patients whom he injected with lethal doses of drugs like those that Oregon doctors have used to end the lives of more than 200 people.
And that was less than two weeks after CNN reported that several medical professionals are under scrutiny in an investigation by Louisiana's attorney general into allegations that hospital workers resorted to unauthorized euthanasia in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. One doctor was reported to have gone from patient to patient with a handful of syringes, telling them that "I'm going to give you something to make you feel better."

Rabbi merely means teacher implying spiritual teacher.. Not a few rabbis have become christians.. My Hebrew Civilzation professor was an orthdox Rabbi.. and he told me (at age 75) he would become a christian (after comeing to one of our meetings) but he was too old to change his entire life and lifestyle.. God was real to him and he was satisified with that.. What he prayed privately he would not say..
So you've tasted some fresh meat, because of that 75-yo Rabbi, eh? Very mighty it has made you. Of all your posts on this thread so, what as any one of them to do with the dread and dangerous subject? (That subject is: the mortal risk posed by this culture of Suicide for your own life, my own life, the lifes of all those we love, the lifes of all and any.)

Unfortunate and frightening.
Great cartoon.
Nope just shareing a personal anecdote.. of a sweet old guy that I loved.. He loved my school buddies and me too..
What a drama queen.. jeese..
Yet another one that might be of interest. It's hard to choose sometimes, there are so many.
I will say this about Kevorkian. From what I remember the folks he went to jail for pulled their own string. These dying folks didn't pawn the deed off on some physician or other party as they are doing in Oregon.

New Jersey Threatens to Block Killer's Kidney Gift
::Charles Cullen::
There was no Federal issue here.
If the Feds want to pass a law which bans Doctors from prescribing sufficient medication to end the life of a terminally ill patient, then let them do it. Then there may be an issue for the Federal Courts to get involved in.
In the meantime, the Feds should not inject themselves (no pun intended) into the private matters of terminally ill patients and their doctors.
If, God forbid, such a disease were ever to strike me I would pray that I could find a physician who would give me sufficient medication so that I could decide when I could no longer stand the pain.
