Socially liberal, but most concerned with Quebec independence, I think. The most probable coalition partner for the Conservatives, since they reportedly HATE the Liberals and will welcome Harper's stress on decentralization of power.

I think. :)

I'm seeing a pattern here. When Michael Moore takes a side in elections that side loses.
I want him to take a side in 08 for sure. Keep talking Michael!

Michael, Howard Dean, and Kerry just can't help themselves.

I wonder how Michael Moore is handling this news.

His diet is ruined.

Those New Years Resolutions usually last a bit longer than that...

But you know, with the Conservatives doing well tonite in Quebec, the BQ's popular vote is only around 40% - and even they know they can't win a referendum with that support.

They'll work with the Tories as long as Harper is popular.

I read that on wwww.cpac.ca, the BQ leader was on (can't recall his name) pledging his support for Harper.

I'm of mixed minds about the election. First off, I just returned from the victory party for our candidate who won by about 700 votes against the most outrageous smear campaign by the Librano$ in particular. The more I see of our candidate, I the more I like him.

On the national scene, the Conservatives really needed to to get another 30 seats - if not a majority, a much stronger minority. As it is, I can't imagine them risking introducing legislation like turfing SSM and that is quite worrying. The longer scurlious trash like that is allowed to stick around, the more it becomes entrenched and harder to root out. I hate to say it but I think that the opportunity to get rid of SSM is gone for good.

This is wonderful news!

Montréal, Jan 24th (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin conceded early on Tuesday that his ruling Liberals had lost the federal election to the Conservatives of Stephen Harper.

Hey, a win is a win. It sure beats the hell out of the alternative!

BTW, CONGRATULATIONS! But why are you home so early from the party? I'd be going all night!

Why am I home so early from the party? I have a customer who has asked me to attend a meeting at 9 am and he is a couple of hours away...sigh.... so why am I still up freeping? Best get myself chased to bed.

Yes, thanks for the congratulations. I guessed that my excitement level is tempered by the reality of another minority government and the difficulty that we know the Conservatives will have in getting decent legislation passed.

Canadians today elected a minority Conservative government led by Stephen Harper and Prime Minister Paul Martin said he would step down as leader of the Liberal party. After 13 years of Liberal rule, Canadians elected a government led by Harper that is promising squeaky-clean ethics, a crackdown on crime and lower taxes. In his concession speech at Liberal headquarters in Montreal, Martin said he would not lead the party into another election.

-snip-

Tory Leader Harper scored a victory in today’s federal election, helped in part by strong, long-sought gains in Ontario and a Liberal collapse of historic proportions in Quebec.

Great news ping! :o)

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my ‘miscellaneous’ ping list.

Thanks. That sounds like good news for the Conservatives since they won't have to form a coalition with the NDP.

As I understand it.
