LUXOR, Egypt - A Johns Hopkins University archaeological team has unearthed a statue of Queen Ti, one of the most important women in ancient Egypt and wife of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities announced Monday.

The statue, mostly intact, was found under a statue of Amenhotep III in the sprawling Karnak Temple in Luxor, which was a royal city in ancient Egypt.

Ti was the first queen of Egypt to have her name appear on official acts alongside that of her husband. She was known for her influence in state affairs in the reigns of both her husband (1417-1379 B.C.) and of her son, Akhenaton, (1379-1362 B.C.) during a time of prosperity and power in the 18th dynasty. Her son is remembered for being the first pharaoh to advocate monotheism.

Ti, of Nubian heritage, is believed to be the grandmother of Tutankhamun, perhaps the most famous ruler of ancient Egypt.

Amenhotep III, who ruled for 38 years, made a basic change in the history of ancient Egypt when he named his wife, Ti, as queen against the tradition that his sister should be queen.

"It takes the breath away when one thinks of the time scale, 1417-1379 B.C"

The oldest pyramid in the world is in Caral, Peru: 26-2700BC. (The largest is in Mexico)

Egypt is over-rated, IMO.

Voyages Of The Pyramid Builders

They all came from Sundaland.

There are more pyramids in Mexico than all the rest of the world combined.

Sundaland(Twice the size of present day India)

That would have been easy living during the Ice Age and people must have flourished. They had to go somewhere when it went underwater. Was this Atlantis? The timing is correct.

Egypt's pyramids director Zahi Hawas

He already appears in every single TV show related to Egyptian archaeology. Now he's showing up in FR threads. I figure that whatever agency he works for does not allow filming of archeological sites unless he appears on screen.

all Eqyptians were "Africans" in the sense that Egypt is on the continent of Africa. However, were they Bantu? No, definitely not. They were a mixture of Nubian/Ethiopian types and Semitic types (initially), then you had the mixing with Aryans (through the various invasions of the Sea-peoples and the Greeks and Romans) and now the Arabs.

think of the other pieces -- the pyramids were built around c 2250 B.C. --> When Christ was born, they were farther apart in time, than He is from us, in time...

Or, the great ziggurats in Iraq (Sumeria) -- built around 4000 B.C. --> 6000 years ago!!!

The Caral pyramid is interesting. Here is a link.

But it is not the oldest pyramid in the world.

The Step Pyramid of Djoser is believed to be just barely older. The Egyptians had built earlier pyramids but these aren't considered to be true pyramids because they were rubble-filled and lacked internal hallways and chambers.

However, the oldest known pyramid in the world is in Greece. The Pyramid of Hellinikon is thought to have been built around 2720 BC.

I just had this exact discussion with someone else the other day. The conclusion: He said that Hellinikon was the oldest and Caral was the oldest. I said, based on recent reading about the redating of Caral that Caral was the oldest and Hellinikon was the second oldest. We agreed to leave it at that. Regardless, we both agreed that the Egyptian pyramids aren't the oldest. So...
