Right Wing News emailed more than 230 right-of-center bloggers and asked them to send us a ranked list 1-5 of the candidates that they would most like to take the Republican nomination for President in 2008 and the 1-5 candidates they'd least like to see as the Republican nominee in 2008. Representatives from the following 58 blogs responded...
Aaron's CC, Absinthe & Cookies, The American Mind, The Anchoress, AtlanticBlog, Atlas Shrugs, Backcountry Conservative, La Shawn Barber, The Baseball Crank, Betsy's Page, BlameBush!, Boi From Troy, Byrd Droppings, Commonwealth Conservative, DANEgerus Weblog, Dodgeblogium, Dr. Sanity, Eckernet, Euphoric Reality, Gateway Pundit, GayPatriot, Generation Why?, GOP Vixen, Guardian Watchblog, Hog Haven, The House of Wheels, Hud's Blog-O-Rama, Inside Larry's Head, Iowa Voice, The Jawa Report, ~Jewels~of~the~Jungle~, Jihad Watch, JunkYardBlog, The Key Monk, Knowledge Is Power, Multiple Mentality, My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, Newmark's Door, A North American Patriot, The Nose On Your Face, The Patriette, The Patriot Blog!, Peaktalk, Damian Penny, The Pink Flamingo Bar & Grill, QandO, Red-State, Right Side Redux, Right Wing News, Isaac Schrödinger, Sister Toldjah, Slobokan's Site Of Schtuff, Solomonia, Stop The ACLU, Suitably Flip, Toys in the Attic, WILLisms, Wuzzadem
All participating bloggers were provided with the following list of potential candidates although they were also allowed to select nominees who were not listed...
George Allen: (Senator, Virginia) Haley Barbour (Governor of Mississippi) Sam Brownback: (Senator, Kansas) Jeb Bush: (Governor of Florida) Dick Cheney: (VP, Wyoming) Bob Ehrlich: (Governor of Maryland) Ernie Fletcher: (Governor of Kentucky) Bill Frist: (Senate Majority Leader, Tennessee) Newt Gingrich: (Former Speaker of the House, Georgia) Rudy Giuliani: (Former NYC mayor) Chuck Hagel: (Senator, Nebraska) Mike Huckabee (Governor of Arkansas) John McCain: (Senator, Arizona) Bill Owens: (Governor of Colorado) George Pataki: (Governor of New York) Tim Pawlenty: (Governor, Minnesota) Condoleeza Rice: (Secretary of State, California) Tom Ridge: (Former Homeland Security Advisor, Former Pennsylvania Governor) Mitt Romney: (Massachusetts Governor) Mark Sanford: (South Carolina Governor) Tom Tancredo: (Congressman, Colorado)
As I mentioned earlier, the bloggers were allowed to make 1-5 ranked selections. Those selections were weighted as follows...
1) Worth 2 points 2 or 3) Worth 1.5 points 4 or 5) Worth 1 point
So, for example, a candidate who received two first place votes (4 points), a third place vote (1.5 points), & and three fifth place votes (3 points), would receive a grand total of 8.5 points.
Also, keep in mind that the scoring cut-off to be included in the lists below was 5 points. If a candidate received less than that, his/her score was not listed.
Here are the selections that were made with the total number of points each candidate tallied following his/her name in parentheses...

If he got the nomination I believe he could win. I just don't know if he's got a big enough name to get there or not.
> She's a pretty lady but she's an establishment tool and NO THREAT to islamofascists.
Diplomacy is her job. It's what the SoS is supposed to do.
Actually, just spoke to the poster. He informed me that he didn't think that it was too hard to read when viewing the preview. Had he felt so, he probably knew just enough HTML to rectify the situation.
At this point, the odds are that McCain will not get the Republican nomination. My prediction is that the polls are going to be clear that McCain will not be able to get the Republican nomination. By the same token, I am going to predict the polls are going to show that Hillary can not win the election in spite of the fact that the polls will suggest that no Democrat will be able to defeat her for the nomination. The NYT and other major players will lobby hard to get McCain to switch parties and run in the primaries against Hillary. I am going to bet that the same polls are going to show that if he switches, he will be able to win the Democratic nomination, even though he would not be able to win the Republican nomination. And the polls will show the election to close to call if McCain wins the Democratic nomination regardless of who the Republican nominee turns out to be.
Will McCain take the bait?
Oh please Lord, let it be. I do not ask this for myself personally.
For you Condi supporters here is a quote of Immanuel Kant:
"A prolonged peace favors the predominance of a more commercial spirit, and with it a debasing self-interest, cowardice, and EFFEMINACY and tends to degrade the character of a nation.
These supposed bloggers on the right are a bunch of moderate girly men. Afraid of Hillary...thinking only another female - no matter if she is not a true conservative - can save us from Hillary. Their effeminacy is in keeping with the times, our metrosexual times.
Allen or Pence, either one, are the choice of those who are truly on the right. There is more to this than the WOT, what about same sex marriage and abortion? How does Condi stand on it? She is no better than McCain in my book.
I think that is more proof that McCain is a has been even as far as the people are concerned. We all know that he was never supported by the Republican establishment---he was too quirky for them He is better as a senator.
I am so pleased about this. McCain won't pay any attention, but the party leaders and contributors will. The MSM is desperate for a McCain/Hillary matchup. Sam Donaldson said on Sunday that he would come out of retirement for it. We know very well that it's not because they want McCain to win.
I'd be proud to vote for Allen or Pence if either gets the nomination (contributed to Alan Keyes in 2000), but what will you do if they dont?
Neither, McCain is the male clone to Clinton.
Where's JC WATTS?
And even I have to acknowledge that it was unfair to leave off Pence from the choices. RWN should know better.
Last gasp of the not-quite-exiled Rockefeller wing. Remember when Gergen issued a PR last year that his Harvard class had straw-polled Hagel as the 2008 candidate? Tells you everything you need to know about both of those morons.
I'd be proud to vote for Allen or Pence if either gets the nomination (contributed to Alan Keyes in 2000), but what will you do if they dont?
Since you contributed to Alan Keyes campaign, conservative on the social issues, what will you do? Especially, if she actually runs and her views on cultural issues are brought out fully into the light of day?
Moral issues come first, in my opinion. Which means I won't be voting for McCain, Guiliani, or Condi (should she get the nomination). On moral issues, there is probably very little difference between these three.
Dark horse candidate, anyone?
You SO wish. Too good to be true. Or, if you want to dream, how 'bout Franks/Rice?
I don't believe McCain would appoint conservative judges. Because of that, I don't care about McCain's pro life voting record as it will have little meaning UNLESS he appoints great judges and signs pro-life legislation. Also, I don't believe that Hillary is a great threat. I would love to see her get the nomination so I can watch her lose. We have many great candidates and remember Bush ran, atleast, as a unapologetic conservative and this is why he was elected. McCain is no conservative . If he does get the nomination, which i say NO WAY, the grassroot people will not be fired up to support him. Hilliary should pray that McCain gets the nomination as most people will not see any difference between them.
McCain nips at Bush's policy on the war every chance he gets. I believe just week-end he said that he believed Bush's policy on wiretaps was illegal and suggested that Bush come to Congress to get permission. He's a joke and Rush will enjoy slapping the guy around. There is alot of fatal mistakes he's made in terms of conservatives. Trust me, conservatives who have worked hard to get true conservatives elected will rally around his defeat for nomination.
I think he can. We still have 2 years.
McCain is actually better than Bush in one respect: His hatred of pork-barrel spending. McCain would fiscally be an improvement over W.
We can do MUCH better, though!
