"The Olympics are something you do with your heart and soul. And when the government comes in and they mess with that, I just don't think that's right. There were many times I felt like driving down to Plains, Ga., and saying, 'How dare you? How did you have the right to do this?'" -- Lynn Petronella, former U.S. distance runner

Actually, it's one of the few things I agreed with Jimmy on. Granted, it was more of a symbolic gesture, but to just ignore the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and treat it as "business as usual" would have been wrong.

Two different Presidents.
Two different approaches to Afghanistan.
One used atheletes, the other used Stinger Missles.

Yeah, that was really dumb

Your to hard on Mr. Carter. He had some bad ideas and was al iberal but he was an honest man and wanted to help people. Its okay to dump on people who say and do bad things but President Carter wa an honorabl man. And plus since he was president he also has done many positive things. Just because people dont agrre with you on politics doesnt mean they are wrong or crazy. Well some times I guess but I dont think of Mr. Carter its true.

That's the way the Liberals like Jimmah do things. Call everybody home and pull the covers over your head, hoping the boogieman will leave you alone.

Jimmy Carter was so honest, that when he had the photo-ops that showed him carrying his own luggage off of Air Force 1 ... that luggage was actually EMPTY and his real luggage was elsewhere.
Look at his behavior since leaving the Presidency - he always sides with America's enemies!

Then again, never mind. Judging by the very first word of your post, I doubt you will find the errors.

That honorable man has disgraced our country with his comments on foreign soil. Let him come home to say his treasonous words. Further, he dumped his Baptist connections saying they didn't share his beliefs. Strange, they sure shared them when he used them to get elected. Honorable is not the word for him.

Were you alive during his term?
"Just because people dont agrre with you on politics doesnt mean they are wrong ...." Oh really? Well then that would mean I'm the one who's wrong which doesn't make much sense. Were you alive during the Reagan Administration? Just curious...

Honorable?
Do you call conspiring with the Soviets in attempt to turn the tide in the 1984 elections honorable?
Naive, ignorant, and imbecilic yes....not honorable.
The man was ill prepared to be the leader of the free world...IMHO

Many of Mr Carter's accomplishments after office have been more PR than reality.
He was one of our worst Presidents. Today's news, that Iran is threathening Israel and is in turn being threatened by Israel, France and the US is a direct result of his decision to withdraw US support from the Shah of Iran (Pahlevi)in 1979. A direct result.
And the people of Iran will suffer more before it is over.
To: dfwgator
It punished the athletes, not the Soviet Union.
To: JZelle
As a devout Carter critic, I did agree with the Olympic boycott.
Just goes to show that amateur athletes can be just as spoiled, self centered and selfish as professional athletes.
