PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush arrived back at the White House from Camp David this afternoon. WorldNetDaily reported today that President Bush discussed the book "Mao: The Unknown Story" with German Chancellor Merkel during their recent meeting. Recommends new Mao book to new chancellor of Germany

© 2006 WorldNetDaily.com Ever wonder which books President Bush is reading?
He provided a clue to Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany in the Oval Office this month, when talk turned to Merkel's childhood under Communism.
Bush said he had just read "Mao: The Unknown Story," an 814-page biography that presents the Chinese dictator as the moral equivalent of Hitler or Stalin.
Bush reportedly spoke glowingly of the book, a 10-year project by Jung Chang, the author of the hugely successful memoir "Wild Swans," which has sold 10 million copies worldwide, and her husband, John Halliday, a British historian. "Mao" has been at the top of the best-seller lists in Britain and Germany and was published to mixed reviews late last year in the United States.
"Mao: The Unknown Story" is a searing indictment of Communism.
WEEK AHEAD UPDATE: President Bush will meet Lebanon's parliamentary majority leader Saad Hariri -- the son of murdered former premier Rafiq Hariri -- during a visit to the United States this week, an aide to the MP said.
Hariri, whose father was killed last February 14 sparking international and domestic outrage, will start his visit on Monday and will hold talks with US officials and members of Congress, the source told AFP.
He will meet with the President on Friday.
The murder sparked a US and French-led United Nations campaign which in April ended Syria's near three-decade military presence in its tiny neighbour.
Saad Hariri's talks will focus on the situation in Lebanon and in the region and on the UN inquiry into his father's murder which many Lebanese blame on Syria.
Damascus has vehemently denied involvement in the killing and says Beirut has become a launch-pad for anti-Syrian conspiracies.

In other news, the MSM is all a'twitter because TIME Magazine found some photos of President Bush with Jack Abramoff. (TIME has apparently spent a considerable chunk of change setting their researchers to work on this matter.) The photos appeared to have been taken at White House functions, according to the reports. The White House has acknowledged that Abramoff attended some events at the Executive Mansion, and spokeswoman Dana Perino said Sunday it's not surprising that the two would have met. "The president has taken tens upon tens of thousands of pictures at such events," Perino said. Abramoff met a few times with White House staff and attended Hanukkah receptions in 2001 and 2002.
Heck, if any of us had the time to do it, we could search our own archives and find photos of GWB with Abramoff -- and with all sorts of other less than savory folk. Why, I'm sure we could even find a few of the President with Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, and others of similar character.

PHOTO OF THE DAY: President Bush and well-wishers on the South Lawn today. They were having a photo taken of them from the front, while an enterprising news reporter snapped this heartwarming shot from the back.

Yahoo gave no explanation for why this old photo has been reposted today. They did not indicate if the photo was supplied in 2001 or today. They just posted this caption with the photo. I guess the rest is left up to our imaginations.
In this photograph provided by the White House, President Bush talks to Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, left, in the Oval Office at the White House in Washington in this Dec. 3, 2001 file photo.

Since Yahoo was in the mood to repost some old photos without explanation, I thought it would be fun to do the same. You won't have any trouble figuring out my reason, though.
Come on, Helen. Put your neck right in here.

Pretty please, Helen. Step right up.

Guess I'll just have to banish her.

I mean it, Helen.

An interesting piece of artwork. It's entitled "Praying for Peace," and is by Ron DiCianni.
Here's a link to his site.
I love this caricature.

OK, first the Hummer, and now this gets added to the wish list...

On the other hand, I'd give up the toys if I could get one of these. Don't know when or where this pic was taken (maybe Camp David). The President drives the First Lady in a pretty fancy vehicle and pretends to be unable to control it. (Laura does not look ruffled, LOL!)

It's such fun mining for pics on Google images, because many of them come from sites hostile to the President and yet are great photos. This one comes from a UK Greenpeace environmental site.
