COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The sister of Terri Schiavo said Saturday that her family's failed court struggle to keep the brain-damaged woman alive shows a society that has "lost sight of the value" of human life.

Suzanne Vitadamo said her sister did not want to die and was not terminal when she died after her feeding tube was removed in March. Schiavo's husband, Michael, had a court order to remove the tube.

Yeah. I'd say 45,000,000 dead from abortions since 1973 signifies the US doesn't value life.

took the words right out of my mouth.

Ad hominem attacks announce losing arguments. Truthful arguments doen't need them.

"I was wondering what gets you in such sour moods on these Terri threads."

Oh, I don't know. Maybe it's the outrageous level of ignorance shown by the Terri-bots. Maybe its the level of rumor mongoring, gossip, innuendo, character assassination, lies, distortions, and irrelevant statements made by you and your ilk.

Beano ain't gonna help with that.

"she could swallow"

Yeah. And I can run. Doesn't mean I qualify for the Olympics.

"Doctors and nurses are certainly capable of giving a patient ice chips without risking aspiration."

Then why was Heidi Law, a nursing assistant, allowed to do it?

"another to deny ordinary medical practice such as the ice chips."

It is not ordinary medical practice to give ice chips to a PVS patient. They could aspirate and you wouldn't even know it. Why in heaven's name would you want to do this?

I'd really like to know.

Really? How?

You should learn how the threads work. Other people get to see them when you post.

Beano ain't gonna help with that.

I am sorry to hear. Try milk of magnesia. That ought to do it.

Wow, why that might hurt the health of someone being killed by dehydration. I guess it is important that the patient being killed be painfully killed by the slow court appointed method. But I would do it in Heaven's name.

This is what you get when you dehydrate:

Saliva becomes thick and foul-tasting; the tongue clings irritatingly to the teeth and the roof of the mouth .... A lump seems to form in the throat ... severe pain is felt in the head and neck. The face feels full due to the shrinking of the skin. Hearing is affected, and many people begin to hallucinate... [then come] the agonies of a mouth that has ceased to generate saliva. The tongue hardens into what McGee describes as "a senseless weight, swinging on the still-soft root and striking foreignly against the teeth." Speech becomes impossible, although sufferers have been known to moan and bellow.

Next is the "blood sweats" phase, involving "a progressive mummification of the initially living body." The tongue swells to such proportions that it squeezes past the jaws. The eyelids crack and the eyeballs begin to weep tears of blood. The throat is so swollen that breathing becomes difficult, creating an incongruous yet terrifying sense of drowning.

Thirst

Only if they search for posts under my name. You call that "bumping"?

"Wow, why that might hurt the health of someone being killed by dehydration."

So you're saying that Terri could have received enough liquid in this manner to avoid dehydration? If she couldn't, then you'd better have a damn good reason for wasting my time with this line of argument.

Terri could feel pain in her head and neck?

"Speech becomes impossible"

Terri could speak?

Why did you post this?

>> Why in heaven's name would you want to do this?

You answered your own question. You do it literally for heaven's sake, to relieve a helpless patient's agony.

Now, now, don't swear. Read instead the link on Thirst above if you haven't already.

You do not understand my sentence. I realize it has been a bad day for some and many of the other sites short circuited because of Justice Alito. Cheer up.

Why did you post this?

Maybe if you are not able to understand what happens in dehydration, others may learn a bit. I guess you have never been around someone like Terri.

"You do it literally for heaven's sake, to relieve a helpless patient's agony."

The agony of a feeding tube? What are you talking about, agony?

Terri was receiving nutrition via a feeding tube. She wasn't in agony when the nursing assistants were feeding her ice chips and jello.

Yeah, I wasted my time reading your linked Christian blog. So what's your point? Are you saying that Terri felt these things? C'mon. Say it.

I understand what a normal person goes though with dehydration. What does this have to do with Terri, a PVS patient with liquid slush for a cerebral cortex?
