COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The sister of Terri Schiavo said Saturday that her family's failed court struggle to keep the brain-damaged woman alive shows a society that has "lost sight of the value" of human life.

Suzanne Vitadamo said her sister did not want to die and was not terminal when she died after her feeding tube was removed in March. Schiavo's husband, Michael, had a court order to remove the tube.

Mike Schiavo finally applies for marriage license. Took long enough for the adulterer to finally go for it.

Schiavo's Sister: U.S. Doesn't Value Life

Yeah. I'd say 45,000,000 dead from abortions since 1973 signifies the US doesn't value life.

It aint the U.S. sweetheart. Its the whole world, and its been that way for thousands of years. War, abortion, murder...none of these are new concepts. Its just urchins like yourself who watch too much TV and scream "the sky is..!!", as if selfishness just plopped down from the heavens for the first time.

Oh it's been there sure but the real danger sign is now it is far more prevalent. The hearts of many are growing cold. Tell you what though spend some time with disabled persons who fear will it be them next because our nations society has begun placing a value of worthiness on their life. Try calming their fears and it makes it personal rather than a news clip on TV.

I understand Terri Schiavo's sister's point, but do not agree that the title reflects the truth. It's a blanket statement that the "U.S. Doesn't Value Life", painting all of U.S. citizens with the same brush. That is not an accurate statement and I"m sure many FReepers will agree.

Schavio saga, as tragic as it was, received an unprecedented level of attention and support. It would have gotten zero level of attention in any other country.

I know I will get flamed, but, I'd say that as long as a country engages in warfare, it cannot truly value life. Warfare, even against the merciless, zealot enemy, means death and destruction of lives. This idealist message belongs in academia.

it's an accurate description of our government both at state levels and national from the court rooms up through the final voice of the people congress. Our government does not value life especially when corporate interest enter into it as it did in her case. Our government is the government we as a nation elected.

"The autopsy supported Michael Schiavo's contention that she was in a persistent vegetative state with no consciousness and no hope of recovery."

The article keeps propagating LIES.

The autopsy specifically said that it cannot be determined whether or not she was in PVS from the autopsy.

How can a country value life when it cannot even value its own Constitution?

You can't compare abortion and the Schiavo case. I'm sorry, but the Schiavos were delusional in thinking that their daughter could recover.

I'm not here to flame, but discuss.

I couldn't possibly disagree more though. I can understand where your thoughts come from but because of the enemy we face, we have only two choices: we can fight them and they die, or we can not fight them and we die. And our people will die in far larger numbers. Furthermore, many other people besides our own will die at the hands of these butchers from Europe to Afghanistan to Indonesia. If we truly value life, we will do what we can to preserve as much of it as possible. Unfortunately, that means finding badguys and killing them before they can cause any more death. That doesn't make any sense on the face of it - killing people to preserve life. But this is an evil world, and there ain't no law that says it has to make sense.
