JOHN KERRY HAS FALLEN…AND KEEPS GETTING UP [GQ: Kerry wants to run in 2008; Dems say NO]
GQ ^ | Jan. 21, 2006 | Michael Crowley

Posted on 01/21/2006 10:17:02 AM PST by summer

John Kerry -- POLITICS: The election may have ended more than a year ago, but someone forgot to tell John Kerry. Michael Crowley talks to the Democrats who wish he'd just go away

...There was just one problem: John Kerry.

Without checking with his party’s leaders, Kerry scheduled his own response to Bush, which was to take place at 11 A.M., precisely the time that Reed was scheduled to respond. In Senate strategy meetings, mild panic ensued. ...Rather than make way for Reed, though, Kerry agreed to appear with him at a joint press event. Plenty of Democrats predicted what came next: Kerry was “droney and repetitive,” ...

The bitter clincher came on that night’s Daily Show.... Cut to a shot of Kerry stammering, then back to Stewart. “Kerry? You went with Kerry?”

After more footage of Kerry rambling incomprehensibly, Stewart stared at the camera and screamed, “No one understands you!” The next day, a link to the clip bounced among the e-mail accounts of angry Senate Democratic staffers.

... But Kerry—who Democrats almost unanimously say is keenly interested in running for president again in 2008—keeps reminding people of the bad old days...

...Joe Lockhart, Bill Clinton’s former press secretary and a senior adviser to Kerry last year (and who, like so many top advisers, had a strained relationship with Kerry during the campaign), adds, “He talks like he’s still running. I don’t mean he’s keeping his options open but that he has every intention of still running.”

...But what’s arguably more bizarre is how obvious it is that the guy Democrats chose to lead them to the promised land is no longer a member of his party’s A-team.... ...

Hey, you guys are right -- Kerry really is posting on Kos! He's even got his own "Diary" there!

Setting aside the fact it's Kerry and Kos for purposes of a FR discussion here, I would just say a lot of people will think it is very cool that an elected official is posting on a blog.

Many people on FR know I have posted email from Gov Jeb Bush here on FR once in awhile, with his permission (as it was directed to FR people). And, IMO, people often appreciate hearing directly from elected leaders.

But, Dems, as usual, are a little late to the table -- Gov Jeb Bush's emails have been here on FR numerous times since before Nov 2000 through recent years, while Kerry seems to have just found out about blogging now, in 2006. (Though Kerry says in his Kos post he is "passionate" about blogging, as is his wife! I don't know if I can buy any of that!)

But -- this is going to be a big headache for Dem leaders who may want to shove Kerry out of the way, because bloggers on either side can now get their act together and really mobilize when they want to do so. (However, FR is of course, #1 in the blogosphere.)

Hillary Clinton won't go online and chat with her supporters unless you drop a few hundred bucks into her campaign chest, and then -- who knows if it's Hillary online in her forum? John Kerry probably has a lot of motivation to get in tight with bloggers if he's really looking to run again. And, bloggers can do a lot to support a candidate.

In short -- Dem leaders who dislike Kerry, take note: One GQ article is not enough to get rid of a presidential candidate who blogs!

Interesting points there Summer. I can see the hip aspect to getting on the net and joining a discussion forum with like minded individuals/supporters.
I know we all get psyched when Levin or Snow join in on a thread, so your example with Gov. Bush is all the more impressive.
But besides being a little late to the game, John Kerry happens to be a lying and traitorous war criminal from the hellhole called Taxachusetts. I think that will remain his cross to bear thus eliminating him from any higher office, not the GQ article or the blogging.
Peace after War.

Thanks for your replies there. BTW, you have an interesting homepage! I voted Dem for 20 years and then became an independent. I like FR because I think there some very smart people here and they do show up from time to time.

But I must admit I still like reading Dem sites every now and then, especially when I see a headline like this one, from my favorite Dem site -- as these folks pull no punches about the way they see the current Dem leadership:

Call Democratic Senators, Especially the Political Careerist Sell-Outs Like Feinstein and Biden, and Tell Them Filibuster or Hasta La Vista Wimps! Here You Can Find the Telephone Numbers and Faxes of All the U.S. Senators. If you are from Maine, Tell the Twin Pretend Moderate Republicans, You Aren't Buying Their Act Anymore. And Lincoln Chafee, Let Him Have It. Vote This Guy Out of Office. He's Always There for Bush When They Really Need Him. "No" Votes Aren't Enough with Alito. It's Filibuster or the Enabling of a Dictatorship, Illegalities in the White House, and the Shredding of Our Constitution. Who Knows, Miracles Can Happen. The Dems Could Get a Spine Transplant Over the Weekend. We Doubt it, But Don't be Silent in the Face of Cowardice. Let Them Hear Your Outrage at Another Sell-out, This One Will Cross the Line Into Dictatorship. 1/21

Here's another funny headline from that same Dem site:

Those posts from the lefties are priceless. It's even funnier how they delayed a week to try to knock Alito around and were then faced with "plantation" Hillary, "chocolate" Ray Nagin, The Barrett Report, and that old menace OBL.
It is a shame that this vote is even close. Republicans had better take mental note to the way their nominees have been treated and never let another Ginsberg happen again.

Kerry never signed and released that form.

Not true. He did sign and release the form. He just did not release it to the proper division that would have all his records. IOW, he cherry picked what was released.

There was a thread about it at the time, in June IIRC. I thought I saved it, but can't find it. Too tired to keep looking now.

Mr. Tonkin may be able to help.

For those who "forgot" what Hanoi Kerry
did in the past read on and learn the truth.

Hanoi Kerry was still a USNR officer while he:
gave false hearsay testimony to Congress
negotiated with the enemy
helped the US lose a war
abetted in the deaths of millions
created a hostile environment for all servicemen

Stolen Valor Act of 2005 (Introduced in House)
HR 3352 IH

109th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. R. 3352

To amend title 18, United States Code, with respect to protections for the Medal of Honor, and for other purposes.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

July 19, 2005

Mr. SALAZAR introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

A BILL

To amend title 18, United States Code, with respect to protections for the Medal of Honor, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the `Stolen Valor Act of 2005'.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS.

Congress finds that--

(1) fraudulent claims surrounding receipt of the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished-Service Cross, the Air Force Cross, the Navy Cross, the Purple Heart, or any other medal or decoration awarded by Congress or the armed forces damage the reputation and meaning of these medals;

(2) Federal law enforcement officers are currently limited in their ability to prosecute fraudulent claims of receipt of military medals; and

(3) changes to the current statute are necessary to allow law enforcement personnel to protect the reputation and meaning of these medals.

SEC. 3. MILITARY MEDAL PROTECTIONS.

Section 704 of title 18, United States Code, is amended--

(1) in subsection (a)--

(A) by inserting `purchases, attempts to purchase, solicits for purchase, mails, ships, imports, exports, produces blank certificates of receipt,' after `wears'; and

(B) by inserting `attempts to sell, advertises for sale, trades, barters or exchanges for anything of value' after `sells';

(2) in subsection (b)(1), by inserting `or (b)' after `subsection (a)'

(3) by redesignating subsection (b) as subsection (c);

(4) by inserting after subsection (a) the following:

`(b) False Claims About Receipt of Military Medals- Whoever falsely represents himself or herself, verbally or in writing, to have been awarded any decoration or medal authorized by Congress for the armed forces of the United States, or any of the service medals or badges awarded to the members of such forces, or the ribbon, button, or rosette of any such badge, decoration or medal, or any colorable imitation thereof shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.'; and

(5) by adding at the end the following:

`(d) Other Medals- If a decoration or medal involved in an offense under subsection (a) or (b) is a Distinguished Service Cross awarded under Section 3742 of title 10, an Air Force Cross awarded under section 8742 of section 10, a Navy cross awarded under section 6242 of title 10, a silver star awarded under section 3746, 6244, or 8746 of title 10, or a Purple Heart awarded under section 1129 of title 10, or any replacement or duplicate medal as authorized by statute, in lieu of the punishment provided in that subsection, the offender shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.'.

"From Ray Funderburk, MOPH

The greatest threat to the sanctity and significance of the Purple Heart comes from the medal's easy availability. Anyone can buy one at flea markets, pawnshops or on the Internet, where Web sites offer the decoration, no questions asked, for as little as $35. An accompanying certificate on onion skin parchment and personalized with your name and any rank you choose costs about $25.

Such commerce in the symbols of American courage and sacrifice would be outlawed by a measure spearheaded last July by Rep. John Salazar, D-Colo.

His "Stolen Valor Act" would make it a federal crime to falsely wear the Purple Heart and other top military decorations, or to even list them on a resume if they were not officially earned.

But the proposed bill now sits in the House Judiciary Committee, and its fate remains unclear.
"We're waiting for the committee to act," said Salazar

Any Republican or Democrat politicians who don't get this bill passed is
as guilty as the phonies that this bill targets.

The Swift Boat Vets already proved, beyond a doubt,
that hanoi kerry's 1st Purple Heart is fraudulent.

A US Attorney General can get ALL of hanoi kerry's
records and once and for all prove that the
Swift Boat Vets were accurate and true.

All that has to be done is to get this bill passed and signed into law now, before the '06 election.

Since hanoi kerry will be under indictment he'll
have to sit out the '06 election for his illegal seat
in the US Senate.

AND the best part is that it is a Democrat sponsored
bill that will his downfall.

"Among former Kerry staffers, thereÂ’s particular anger over his refusal during the campaign to release his complete military record, which fueled conspiracy theories and made it nearly impossible to shoot them down. After the election, Kerry finally agreed to release everything. Reporters—and his aides—were stunned to find there was nothing to hide." Really? What about Form-180?
