It could very well be that they realize that with radical Islam not being tolerated and lots of Iranians found fighting in Iraq, eventually they had next.
Could be they are attempting to either do this on their terms or to get us going after them when we are occupied elsewhere so we are spread thin.

We are not spread thin. There are only 150K forces in Iraq out of 2.3 million. Supported by another 3 million civilians. And a fast industrial ramp-up of 5-10 million here. And on the right side of Iran there are some very silent bases:):) While they make noise on their left side.
I also agree. This bearded viper is on a mission and his orders were issued from Hell. His ranting reveals just how dangerously demented he and, let's not forget his hand picked cronies in this new Iranian dictatorship all have the same Mahdi-related apocalyptic overview for the Western world. The sooner this régime is toppled from power the better.
Saying that we must also bear in mind that unfortunately this geostrategic dilemma, and the broad reaching adverse economic implications, are far more complex & exceedingly more risky then the successful removal of the former monsters who were in control of either Iraq and Afghanistan. It must be done though, and swiftly!
