Just as our intelligence experts are parsing every word in the OBL tape, so does a careful analysis of Katie Couric's interview this morning of Peter Bergen, British author of "The Osama Bin Laden I know", provide important insights into her MSM mindset.
At one point, Katie made this statement:
"He talks about Pres. Bush in the tape and he says he's foolish for ignoring the poll numbers that indicate the American people want him to pull out of Iraq. How do you think he's keeping abreast of all this. It's sort of odd, isn't it? Is he just paying attention to Al-Jazeera? It's not as if he's reading the New York Times, is it?"
Oh, I don't know, Katie. Perhaps Osama is a Today show fan. After all, Today never fails to trumpet any dip in W's polls or any indications of pro-withdrawal sentiment among the American people.
In any case, it's evident that for Couric, the New York Times remains the paper of record, the 'all the news that's fit to print' gold standard for obtaining the news and views of the day. Katie, many of us have moved on!
Oh, and by the way, a careful review of the tape of Couric's interview suggests she might be holed up in a cave, albeit a well-lighted one, on Rockefeller Center. ;-)
Did you know that the head of the NYT Middle Eastern desk is a relation to Yasser Arafat?
"It's sort of odd, isn't it?"
Not as odd as that question.
Reading it? I'm pretty sure he's writing it.
No, I didn't. But I'm sure he is totally fair and balanced. He is, after all, a journalist.
Today Show/NewsBusters ping.
Oh, shoot. Her brain is showing signs of life again. Quick, time to have her do another story about looking up her colon!
Of course, he reads the NYT. It is stupid to think that the terrorists don't monitor our media and many other things. Not everyone in third-world countries lives a stone-age lifestyle. There is internet access everywhere. Maybe everyone doesn't get on the internet but you can just be that enough people do. Doing a word-search of some type of filter isn't hard and it draws the attention of the spy-types to articles and other postings.

LOL
My gratitude and sympathy for watching Katie, the "expert" (gag)give opinions on OBL's tape.
Katie, you ignorant... (well we all know the rest of the line)
For a second there, I was happy that the guest made such an outstanding response to Katie's face, before I realized it was the article's author. What was I thinking, of course Today would never have on a guest that makes conservative thinking look normal.
She can't be so stupid as to think that he is somehow "incapable" of reading the NY Times ... and any of two undred other "news" sources that promote his version of reality?
Can she?
Great line GLGB. Can anyone spell bubble?
Sounds right to me!
LOL!
"...Is he just paying attention to Al-Jazeera? It's not as if he's reading the New York Times, is it?"
What's the difference? :)
Duh?
YES!!!
bwahahahahahahahah!!! well, it would be funny if it didn't ring true.
