Syria backs a nuclear Iran
By Patrick Bishop in Damascus

Syria yesterday backed Iran in its nuclear confrontation with the West as their leaders met in Damascus in a defiant show of solidarity.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Bashar al-Assad
The Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, welcomed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and said the Iranian leader had the right to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. In turn, Mr Ahmadinejad asserted his host's right to freedom from foreign interference.
Both men face confontations with the United Nations Security Council. The West is pushing for the International Atomic Energy Agency to refer Teheran to the council over its work on enriching uranium, which Europe and America fear is intended for use in nuclear weapons.
Mr Assad's regime is under intense scrutiny after a UN report implicated senior figures in the assassination last year of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.
The meeting came as Mr Ahmadinejad's government warned the West that the world would face an oil crisis if Iran was referred to the council and sanctions followed. "One of the consequences will be the unleashing of a crisis in the oil sector and particularly a price hike," said Davoud Danesh-Jafari, the oil minister.
lI bet they are both about to crap their pants in fright over havung a trip over to see the UN. Sarcasm.
Simultaneously? Whoa.
"I love America enough to warn that the Iraq War is a needless diversion while true threats to our great republic prepare themselves for the coming anarchy. If you want America to send even more troops to occupy a hostile Middle East, then you clearly don't love America as much as you like to think you do."

well well general lee please tell us great unwashed bumpkins what the best plan is. by the way can you tell me when our troops were sent to "occupy" a friendly country?? kinda self contradictory no?
This'll probably start a flame war but I'll come out and say it: The Iraq war is not enough for me. I want to know why we didn't expand into Iran and/or Syria two years ago. Why just patch one of the holes in a boat that's leaking in several places?
Ok, "unwashed bumpkin", I'll let you in on a little secret: Germany and Japan weren't hostile when we occupied them. Unless you can cite me some evidence of thousands of American GIs dying in guerrilla movements in either of those countries after their regimes fell.
You come here to spout that bit of DemonicRat Blasphemy?
Have you seen any of the threads referencing the work of Stephan Hayes of the Weekly Standard......Saddam was a King Maker....and trained thousands of /Terrorists.....

well ignorance is no excuse..there was fighting in Germany for well over a year after the end of the war..go look it up, we were killing Japanese who would not surrender for months after the end in the pacific. I will not teach you history, go get it yourself.

Bravo Sierra on both counts. Cite me the evidence of a broad-based insurgency in either country that had the support of at least 20% of the population.
If the U.S> pulls out of Iraq and the Baathist state of Syria and the Ayatollahs in Iran are still standing, all the money spent and all the lives lost in Iraq will have been for nothing.
Surrounded by these two terrorist thug states, Iraq will one way or another be drawn back into the madness of Islamic fundamentalism.
The Iraq War has made Syria and especially Iran stronger.
