"Intelligent design" not science: Vatican paper

PARIS (Reuters) - The Roman Catholic Church has restated its support for evolution with an article praising a U.S. court decision that rejects the "intelligent design" theory as non-scientific.

The Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano said that teaching intelligent design -- which argues that life is so complex that it needed a supernatural creator -- alongside Darwin's theory of evolution would only cause confusion...

A court in the state of Pennsylvania last month barred a school from teaching intelligent design (ID), a blow to Christian conservatives who want it to be taught in biology classes along with the Darwinism they oppose.

I still have yet to figure out how evolution and ID are incompatible. One postulates the creation of the universe, the other is a theory as to how species evolve.

I feel kind of dumb for not having known this interesting tidbit. How do they reconcile this with Creation?

Or maybe a supernatural creator actually did plan for Christ to die to save mankind.

A man, Adam, with a sinful nature, saved by the grace of another man Jesus, man without sin.

Maybe a supernatural creator was the first one to come up with evolution, and Darwin just figured out a small part of what the creator was doing.

Right. Like he figured out the micro part of evolution but not the macro.

"Or maybe a supernatural creator actually did plan for Christ to die to save mankind."

You don't have to begin the sentence above with "or", even if you do accept evolution as the best theory to date.

ID was invented as a way of combatting the fact that public schools have become little more than Demo(n)cRAT indoctrination camps.

Ah, good, so we're agreed it's a political strategem, not science.

If he created the whole thing, I'm pretty sure he could see how the small would become large. Isn't that his plan anyway?

Now a pic of Boy George from the '80s would have been really offensive. Your pic was appropriate IMHO.

All protestant denominations were at one time sola scriptura, including Presbyterian. Many Presbyterians today would affirm that principle, and I would also be willing to bet that it is still included in the official church doctrine, although I'm sure in many places it's just given lip service or the terms are redefined to mean whatever they want it to mean.
