I feel kind of dumb for not having known this interesting tidbit. How do they reconcile this with Creation?
Not that difficult if one considers the fact that (1) the Bible states that God created the universe but does not specify the methodology, (2) seven days can be an awful long time if the planet hasn't yet started spinning and (3) the existence of civilized man matches the Bible's timeline.
Same way they reconcile that Mary was sinless and only had one child Jesus.
Our Pastor said yesterday during a funeral mass that ID is *essentially* the Catholic position. We believe that the Lord did exactly what Genesis said He did, but that we have no way of knowing how He did it or what the parameters were. I mean, what is a day before the Earth was put into orbit around the sun? It could be 10000 years for all we know.
God did it. How God did it is up to us to discover, to uncover the beauty and mystery of His creation.
AS I stated just a second ago I went to Catholic school from kindergarten through the end of high school. We were taught evolution. To answer yoiur question, we were taught that is okay to consider parts of the old testament as "parables" ... and not necessarily to be taken literally such as Noah's ark, walking on water et al.
