ALBANY, N.Y. -- A potential Republican challenger called Wednesday for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to "do the honorable thing" and take to the Senate floor to apologize for saying the GOP-controlled House of Representatives is "run like a plantation."
The former first lady's claim came Monday during an appearance at a Martin Luther King Day event in New York City and has drawn complaints from several Republicans. Current first lady Laura Bush said Wednesday the remark was "ridiculous."
"Senator Clinton's race baiting by comparing the U.S. Congress to a plantation exploits those who suffered under slavery and it trivializes the brutality of a dark period in American history," said potential Clinton challenger John Spencer.
"People make mistakes, and when they do, honest people quickly recognize it and apologize," said the former mayor of Yonkers. "For Senator Clinton not to apologize over 48 hours later can only lead voters to think she really meant and stands by these racially divisive remarks. This is very sad that Senator Clinton stubbornly refuses to make amends and apologize. She should do it in writing and on the Senate floor."
Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson declined comment on Spencer's statements.
At an event Tuesday night in New York City, Clinton stood by her earlier remark, claiming the House was run "in a top-down way."

Now if the Hildabeast were to lean on her little buddy and family relation, Senator Boxer, to request the State Legislature to "play nice", then perhaps she might have some basis and standing to comment, or shame Republicans for exercising their majority.
One needs to control their own household, before requiring the nieghbors to toe the line... At the federal level, things are not as NEAR one-sided, as it is in California.
John Spencer will make a very good GOP candidate against HELLary.
I wonder how long he can hold his breath.
The little house masters will say what the big house masters tell them to say! Right now they are folkus goupin to find out what will cure this hoof in mouth problem.
Look for a solution Fri evening/afternoon, right after Rush or Hannity!
Good!
I hope she doesn't apologize, and I hope Spencer continues to hammer her for it.
Hopefully, she continues to spout stupid stuff in the same vein.
Who said he had to hold his breath?
Seriously, it's not a bad way to learn how to swim. I learned to swim underwater before I could swim on the surface.
Spencer could be the best chance to win.
Has yet to apologize for killing Vince Foster, why should she apologize for slandering the g.o.p.?
Hillary is Hysterical in the Wall Street Journal Box Score of her Congressional Travel Office Probe. In her affidavit, the DNC declared Smartest Women in the WORLD said: I do not recall/I cannot recall 21 times I do not believe 9 times I have no knowledge/I have no first-hand knowledge/I have no personal knowledge 7 times It is possible/It is quite possible that I had/ It is possible that I may have 4 times I simple dont know/I dont know/ I do not know how/I do not know what 4 times I believe 3 times I may have spoken 3 times I have no specific recollection 2 times I may have expressed the view 2 times I cannot identify 2 times I do not know for certain/I do not know how 2 times.
Katrina revealed the Democratic Plantation of Louisiana an how about the Democratic Plantation known as Washington, D.C.
His good friend Al huh? Al the convicted liar, Al the racist. Good old Al. Just like Sean Hannity has his good friends John McCain, Charlie Rangel, James Carvile and every other democrap.
What do you expect to hear from them? "Yes boss, we get all the others to march in lock step behind you."
When are the republicans going to start fighting back?
The democrats were all about the plantation. The republican party was formed to fight against the plantation.
During "plantation times", the democrats, both north and south, were fighting the republican efforts to end the plantation.
It's time to start playing the culture wars and use the truth about their own past.
The real story here is that a piece of ash wipe like Newsday is publishing a press release from John Spencer. This is only the start. The stupid ratmedia will fall right into the trap of trying to "make this senate race interesting". They will print stuff like this and for the most part the beast will ignore it. Then when all of these dopes final see that Spencer is real, it will be too late. There will be a ton of unanswered items banging at her door. Hee hee hee.
Could you kindly enlighten me? I have no idea what you're talking about (and I'm sure that's MY fault, not yours).
Care to elaborate? Which term? I can certainly see this was a calculated move to fend off Condaleeza Rice as a threat. I am not connecting the term "plantation" if that's what you mean to the Rice calculus.
We should rejoice everytime the Beast turns into a shrill tenor screeching politician. When she does this, it doesn't matter what she says, it all sounds like nails on a chalkboard to most voters.
Senator Clinto was right when she said that Congress acted like slave overseers. People have less and less to say about what goes on in their name.
The solution is not to put her and the other socialists back in power. Congress is always far more dangerous when Democrats control Congress or the White House.
At least the Bush administration is going mostly in the right direction.
Probably none of us will ever see the kind of politician we want to see in office. But when a politician is going in your direction, that's the one to support.
Hillary and the Socialist/Democrats are going in the opposite direction.
"Good move. The 'Pubs need to call the Dims at every opportunity"
Republicans need to link Hitlery with the word "plantation" in a negative fashion as often as possible. Apparently one of her defenders inferred that at least slaves had jobs.
