A Day in the Life of President Bush (and Laura, overseas; photos): 1.18.06

At the White House, the president met with current and former Iraqi citizens, victims of Saddam Hussein's regime.

Laura Bush continues her African visit (with her daughter, Barbara). She criticized Senator Clinton for suggesting that the Republican-controlled House is run like a plantation where dissenting voices are ignored. "It's a ridiculous comment," Mrs. Bush told reporters when asked about the remark. She headed home after reaffirming the U.S. commitment to help Nigeria treat AIDS patients and stem the spread of HIV. She said she hoped that "one day an entire generation" will be free of the disease that has ravaged Africa. Earlier, Mrs. Bush drove to the dusty outskirts of Abuja to visit a small AIDS clinic where a young woman told her of how drugs helped her escape death from the disease. Mrs. Bush visited a hospital, where there were enough anti-retroviral drugs to treat 500 people over the next year. It is the first U.S.- backed shipment of the drugs St. Mary's has received through President Bush's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

Americans Must Understand U.S. is at War: "The American people must remind themselves every day that the United States is at war, Army Lt. Gen. Ray Odierno, speaking at the American Enterprise Institute here, said today."

Dear President Bush,

We cordially invite you and Laura to join us on the freeper "FReeps Ahoy 4" cruise to the Caribbean in May.

We know you're busy, but with freepers alongside you on the ship, you'll relax, have great fun, and you can participate in scintillating political yakity-yak at dinner while passing the butter dish around.

Looking forward to your sailing with us. We always have reasonable group-rate fares.

Sincerely,

Your buds at Free Republic.com

To those freepers reading this invitatation, the honor of your presence is also requested. The cruise thread "FReeps Ahoy 4" is up and running. Come sail on the "Caribbean Princess" for the time of your freepin' life!

Bahama Mama

Thanks for the daily dose. First Lady Laura Bush, is really a classy lady and great representative of our county. She needs to be traveling internationally alot more. We haven't seen much of Jenna Bush.

Wouldn't that be just unimaginably great?

I should like to see the First Couple relaxing amidst such a great group.

QUOTE: "It's been my honor to visit with folks who know firsthand the brutality of Saddam Hussein. These are folks who have suffered, one way or the other, because the tyrant was a law unto himself, and was willing to deny people basic human rights. The stories here are compelling stories. They're stories of sadness and stories of bravery."

Great post! BUMP! It is great to see the Bush team hard at work representing... Democracy rocks!

I was thinking the same thing on both counts. I'm sure Jenna's duties as a teacher make it harder for her to get out and about with the same flex in her schedule that Barbara has. But I wish we could see more of both daughters. These years when they are in the spotlight are moving by quickly.

Little Adrianna now has a chance at a normal life. God be praised.

Indeed! Great news.

That's a wonderful account of God's answer to prayer. I sometimes wonder if He doesn't especially hear and answer a child's prayer. It's what Jesus told His disciples, of course, that we need to have faith like a child, so it shouldn't be any surprise.

Thanks! I can tell you, it did a lot to boost the faith of Sabrina and her mom, especially considering the parents had been told this could be an issue of life or death for their daughter. And discharged three weeks early!

I've always felt God gets a special joy out of showing His goodness and mercy.

Sabrina is learning how to pray out loud in front of others but when it was her turn to pray, she, understandably, said she wasn't sure what to pray. I asked, Do you want Adrianna to live and not die? (because at that time it wasn't clear that she would survive), and she said, Yes, so I urged her, Then pray that. And she did ... boy did she! She went on with original, intense, effectual prayer. Later she told me with wonder that she didn't even know how she prayed like that. I told her it was because Jesus, who loves Adrianna, was showing her what to pray. It is awesome.

And I agree completely about God hearing the prayers of children.

Gretchen. Big favor.

Because I am HTML illiterate, I would like to see a "compare and contrast" collage of Laura, Condi versus The Beast, Kerry, Dean in one JPEG that I could download in order to send to my LIBERAL neighbors and aquaintances.

If you would be so kind in accepting this assignment (Mission Impossible speak) please advise and you can forward the collage to my private FREmail addy, and I will will advise my personal email addy.

Thanks in advance.
