White House Silent on Abramoff Meetings

WASHINGTON -- The White House is refusing to reveal details of tainted lobbyist Jack Abramoff's visits with President Bush's staff.

Abramoff had "a few staff-level meetings" at the Bush White House, presidential spokesman Scott McClellan said Tuesday. But he would not say with whom Abramoff met, which interests he was representing or how he got access to the White House.

Since Abramoff pleaded guilty two weeks ago to conspiracy, mail fraud and tax evasion charges in an influence-peddling scandal, McClellan has told reporters he was checking into Abramoff's meetings. "I'm making sure that I have a thorough report back to you on that," he said in his press briefing Jan. 5. "And I'll get that to you, hopefully very soon."

McClellan said Tuesday that he checked on it at reporters' requests, but wouldn't discuss the private staff-level meetings. "We are not going to engage in a fishing expedition," he said.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, along with three other Democratic senators, wrote Bush a letter Tuesday asking for an accounting of Abramoff's personal contacts with Bush administration officials and acts that may have been undertaken at his request. "The American people need to be assured that the White House is not for sale," they wrote.

Yet not one word from Asso Propaganda about Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and Harry Reid (D-NV) being targets in the first level of Bush DOJ investigation into Abramoff's ties to Lawmakers. Junk Journalism on display yet again by the wholly owned Democrat Party Press.

Sorry, but Abramoff was as dirty as they came.

We should spotlight Dems who were potentially part of his corrupt scheme.

But any pubbies who were part of it should get zotted out as well.

Don't worry, I am sure Jack will tell us what transpired, to save his ass. - Tom

Well since the Bush Admin has donated to charity all the money he got and it is the Bush Administration DOJ who is prosecuting Abramoff while the Democrats have refunded NOT A DIME, Perhaps the usual suspect MIGHT focus on that aspect of the corruption that is NOT even being talked about? Perhaps the usual crowd might SHOOT at the other side JUST this one time instead of reaching desperately for a way to attack Bush for this? Bush's DOJ is the one making all this happen, NOT the Democrats.

Ah, so that makes taking dirty money OK - returning it when you get caught with your hands in the cookie jar.

Mabye the meetings with Abramoff were aboveboard, maybe they were not.

But I'm sick of the corruption going down in DC, and anyone who is dirty should be returned home. Period.

There wouldn't be a quorum in either house of Congress...a good thing.

Nor should they reveal anything after the stunt that Fitzgerald is pulling on Libby.

"I don't remember" should be the only info they give out.

Right On. I don't think Bush did anything wrong so they should stop acting like they did. This is when he visited, this is who he met, here are the meeting notes. They'll be a bunch of Liberal shreiking in the Press, but it will die down soon enough and Bush will be standing Stronger than ever.

After that dumb comment you made about Ann Coulter on another thread, I surprised you got one right. But then again isn't a stopped clock right twice a day?

Let me copy and paste for you my reply to you on the other thread.

Let me say again. I appreciate the fact that she has a great disdain for liberals. But, sometimes her comments do not reflect the intelligence quotient I'd like to believe she possesses. She can be so "flippant" and evasive in her replies when challenged; when with a little thought she could chew up her opponents and spit them out.

I don't claim to be the brightest light in the harbor but I'm not in the media spotlight.

Agreed.

If it turns out of one my guys broke the law, I will lead the charge to have them thrown out of office.

We are supposed to be the good ones, remember?

ps. This goes double if it is discovered that laws were broken while surveilling American citizens.

This is what really frustrates me. We aren't talking about a court of law. We are talking about the equivalent of CEO positions. If a CEO's secretary [or Bush staffer] is seen frequenting a mobster's house, that CEO darn well better fire her tail or suffer getting the ax, himself. And if a CEO [such as Harry Reid] is seen taking cash from a mobster, he gets fired.
