Today President Bush met with Tom Bock, the national commander of the American Legion in the Oval Office, as well as John Sommer, executive director of the American Legion's Washington office and Jim Nicholson, Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

He also met in the Oval Office with Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt to discuss key elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

First Lady, Laura and daughter Barbara were in Ghana today, where Mrs. Bush addressed an audience at the Accra Teacher Training College in Accra, Ghana, to launch the African Education Initiative Textbooks Program. They also visited with patients at the Korle-Bu Treatment Center, and with Peace Corps volunteers, marking its 45th anniversary this year.

Former President George H.W. Bush was in Pakistan today visiting survivors of the 2005 earthquake.

Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island and the Daily Dose!

You're welcome cub. Whoever said it and whomever you are agreeing with is right.

Laura just radiates joy, love and serenity. Everyone in her presence can feel it.

I know, cause I've been there, and she is even more lovely in person than shows through these pictures.

Kudos for your successes in life, truly, but you're beginning to sound extraordinarily insecure about something.

Hearing the TRUTH about that hideous excuse for a man, algore, coming from the official White House spokesman was DELICIOUS! :)

Absolutely! LOL!

***It was exactly three years ago that we found out Eric was being deployed, and within a week he was being processed. (I can't remember that military term for it). We hardly had time to breathe, let alone get worried........did we? I can't believe it's been three years!! ***

The two of you are fine examples of how to conduct yourselves as mothers/wife. I recently had an opportunity to share what I viewed on FR of your strength and focus, with a young lady whose hubby is serving in Iraq. Thank you.

I'm beginning to think that algor, Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy, et al are working for the RNC.

I think........as much as it hurts to hear them..........that they should keep talking, and the White House should rebut and rebut and rebut again, just like Scott did yesterday.

BURIED in prayer, mrs t. That's the only way I made it.

Looking back, there was a kind of dark mist over the entire 15 months, and much human pain, but not once did I doubt that God was entirely in control, and that Eric was in the center of HIS will.

We could feel the prayers of our brothers and sisters, mrs t. VERY much.

In California the district charters vary with regard to accountability levels and expectations, as well as intrusion and text requirements.

In our district there are many families leaving the charter system and enrolling in Independent Study Programs (ISP) to enjoy the freedoms they desire and true history materials rather than revisionist.

We are careful to remember that whatever education is government supported, is government controlled. Home educators tend to appreciate more freedom. :o)

Our family is enrolled in an ISP, of which I am an area administrator.

THAT sounds interesting....ISP....is it just a California system? Or is it something that can be done in any state?

The Marine son of a close friend of mine is being deployed in March. While his mother says she feels peace about it, I can only imagine what her heart of hearts is experiencing...or will experience.

Bless you, Ohio.

I believe ISP's are in most, if not every, state. You might want to check on www.hslda.org for detailed info. That site has the legal requirements and academic enrollment options for each state.

Thank you....but I'm not as brave as you give me credit for....when Jon told me last week about his deployment I freaked out(as he called it)....I even had an arguement with Mike(hubby) over it.....both told me I was selfish and only thinking of myself...Mike thinks that he knows what it's like to be at home to sit and wait...he has no idea...I think it's harder because we do not know what's going on. Everytime I heard a chopper was shot down, my heart sank...everytime I came home from the store I was afraid to turn the corner not knowing if an Army car would be sitting in front of my house. I dread the tought of going through this again...I know you understand Ohio, the wait seemed unbearable at times.

....but I'll do it all again, this time at least Mike will be here to help me.

And I forgot the GREAT hair!
It's all about the hair. I once dated a guy that looked like that. Everyone saw the resemblance except him... :-p

It's the whole package though, mystery. :o) You've shared the ups and downs, the brave times and the 'freak outs'. This is what I was able to share and it was well received.

The hubby of another friend is in the Army Nat'l Guard. SAR Medvac. When he was in Afghanistan his wife and 5 boys did everything possible to ensure life was 'normal', whatever 'normal' is when your husband/father is in a war zone. But she shared a certain strength that many women w/o husbands/children in the military don't posess.

God has given you that certain strength...with grace for the 'freak outs' experienced throughout. It is an example. :o)

It is possible to feel peace and still experience pain.

The peace comes from God and is VERY real. The pain comes from being a Mom (or wife), and experiencing great loss, and the potential that the loss will be permanent, even IN God's will.

No hiding the fact that those days were tough......

I know exactly what you mean, mystery. There were times when I screamed and sobbed in anguish........and I did not get one solid night's sleep (without medical help) the whole time.

I'm sure it will make a big difference that Mike will be with you. My husband was a rock. Mike will be too.

Well, you AND McGavin are right about Laura.

She exhudes joy, and makes everyone around her smile.

God bless this fine, Godly woman!
