A hundred years from now, some people will get their PHD's in music theory writing about YES...
Stuff like that, if you have any old tapes/bootlegs/live recordings, would be priceless then!

Mick Taylor was a very good blues soloist. ....reserved, rarely attempting to break new ground. Mimicked his personality. Saw him with Mayall and the Bluesbreakers at the Roxy in L.A. in the early 80s. Total Professionals.
The Yardbirds? Man, you go way back.

Hendrix's solo on the Warner live double album version of "Hear My Train a Comin'" is, without question, the most incredible solo in the history of rocknroll. Which be dat? More of a reference pls.
I also think that Midnight deserves a fair mention.

My apologies to the following musicians for these poll-voters who still listen to one type of music their whole lives:
1.)Todd Duane's---"Electrocution 250" (( I really should stop now ))
2.)Frank Gambale--- "Credit Reference Blues" Any Version
3.)Bebop Deluxe's Bill Nelson doing "Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape." (LIVE)
4.)Pagey's Orchestration of 9 separate guitars for "Ten Years Gone" (The solo in "THE ROVER" blows STH away)
5.)Allan Holdsworth's "White Line" off of the Live CD "Then"
6.)FIRE MERCHANTS---"Landlords of Atlantis" The whole CD is Monster Jazz/Rock Fusion beyond belief.
7.)UFO's Michael Schenker playing "Rock Bottom" Live on "Strangers in the Night"
8.)Michael Landau "Live at The Baked Potato" in 2000
9.)Chris Polands OHM: "Icarus Falls"
10.)Or How about Uli Jon Roth's "Metamorphosis" of "Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons" On Guitar,Huh? ((Has anyone else heard THAT?))
Thank god we all listen to different music. This is just picking "One Type" that I listen to off the top of my head to list. I'm not even getting into listing Great Steely Dan Solo's by various musicians either.

the problem with rating rock guitarists is that there is no objective standard, and none of us would be willing to accept a poll.
that leaves pistols, or maybe swords.
but i'm too old for that, so the younguns will have to settle it.

UFO's Michael Schenker playing "Rock Bottom" Live on "Strangers in the Night" That got props from me in #287
Saw UFO in '79, but without Shenker -- he quit the band just a couple weeks before the show and was replaced by Paul Chapman. Big letdown.

Jorma Kaukonen or Peter Green? How about Bert Jansch or Bugs Henderson or Del McCoury? Yes, it all comes down to your taste.

Yes indeed,my favorite is from "My Woman From Tokyo". Ritchie Blackmore is an amazing rock guitar player. Again-English dude. What's with all the really great rock guitarists, keyboardists, song composers and arrangers, even drummers, being from there?

Heck, I would vote for Malmsteen just for this:
This is from the current keyboard player from Yngwie Malmsteen's band...... First of all, I would like to preface this letter by saying that I am not a fan of one using their musical status to promote religious or political beliefs. I am also not one to post on message boards, but something happened to me on stage last night that I feel compelled to write this letter. I am currently the only American in Yngwie Malmsteen's touring band. What happened at last night's gig in Porto Alegre, Brazil was shocking.
Midway through the set, Yngwie finished his guitar solo spot with the "Star Spangled Banner." The crowd of about 1500 people started immediately booing very loudly, and throwing sh*t on stage. The crowd started chanting, " O S A M A !!, O S A M A !!!" To see the Anti-American rallies on CNN is bad enough, but to be in the middle of one is scary beyond words.
So after Yngwie's solo we had about 5 more songs to play. All of my spirit was gone. I finished the set disgusted, and without looking at the crowd for the rest of the show. After the final song, the band went to the dressing room. I told Yngwie, I refuse to go out for the encore under any circumstances, F**K THESE PEOPLE."
Yngwie went back on stage by himself and played the "Star Spangled Banner" again to a choir of loud boos. He then said on the microphone, "God Bless America, and F*CK YOU ALL" and walked off stage.
The crowd went into a riot and started throwing sh*t on stage. We immediately were rushed back to our hotel. I have no idea of the status of our gear. I want to thank Yngwie for backing me up, and for standing up for the USA. To the people in Porto Alegre, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I don't give a f*ck if I ever play your peasant infested third world city again.
God Bless America,
Derek Sherinian
But musically as far as Malmsteen is concerned 'Far Below the Sun' ranks up there in my list.
