Junk food kills British man

LONDON, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- A 20-year-old British man has died from eating nothing but french fries, white toast and baked beans.

Scott Martin's mother, Margaret, says her son died from liver disease and bleeding caused by malnutrition, the Daily Mirror reported.

"He was fine when he was younger," she said. "I could get him to eat properly. But as he grew older he ended up with just toast, beans, chips and the odd tin of spaghetti. He hardly ate any fruit."

The newspaper said Scott's diet was so bad it caused liver cirrhosis -- a condition normally associated with heavy drinkers. He also developed autoimmune hepatitis, in which the body's own defense system attacks the liver.

He was told a transplant could save him but he was too frightened to have the operation and continued eating his favorite McDonald's french fries, sliced white bread and canned baked beans, the newspaper said.

The dummy wasn't eating a complete breakfast. He left out the fried bread, fried eggs, bangers, and tea.

I think I would kill myself if all I had to eat was brussels sprouts.

No kidding. One of maybe 3 things I don't like.
Okra is another.
Rubarb is the third. Can't think of any others off hand.

Oh, yes: Bacon. He left out the bacon, too.

English bacon is really good, although I'd advise visiting Yanks to think of it as country (salted) ham. Those white cylindrical things that the Brits have the temerity to call "sausages", OTOH, are truly disgusting.

I agree completely. I keep trying to get my Irish friends to send me a case of rashers. The white sausages are...they defy logic.

" white toast, beans, chips and the odd tin of spaghetti. He hardly ate any fruit"

Sounds like my winter diet. Fruit sucks, flies lay their eggs in it, people handle it in the market, it's hand picked by people from who knows where( Although a vodka screwdriver isn't bad).

In the summer I'd have to modify the above diet with ice cream. I'm almost 50 and I feel...ag ...I ...fine.....

This past Thanksgiving, I tried Brussel Sprouts for the 1st time since I was kid. I actually liked them. So, maybe I'll invest in your B.S. company.

When Brits talk about beans on toast, are they talking about baked beans poured over white-bread toast?

Because that sort of sounds good.

But not as good as the chili cheese dogs we're having for dinner!

I spent some weeks with young Brits in Brighton, and all they ate for lunch was baked beans on toast - cheap and tasty,I admit, but not great for a steady diet.

His sister sez: "He was always like that, from when he was little. Finding stuff he'd eat was a struggle."

When each of us kids tried that crap - and all three of us did - we soon learned that if you don't eat what Mom cooks, you don't eat.

If you haven't had good ole Southern fried okra, you haven't had okra. That's the only way it should - nay, can - be eaten.

He sounds like a spoiled brat to me and too stubborn to change!

Had he taken the spaghetti out of the tin, this story might have had a happier ending.

That's not what killed him, it's the beer he washed it all down with.

I would have guessed asphyxiation, myself.
