LONDON, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- A 20-year-old British man has died from eating nothing but french fries, white toast and baked beans.
Scott Martin's mother, Margaret, says her son died from liver disease and bleeding caused by malnutrition, the Daily Mirror reported.
"He was fine when he was younger," she said. "I could get him to eat properly. But as he grew older he ended up with just toast, beans, chips and the odd tin of spaghetti. He hardly ate any fruit."
The newspaper said Scott's diet was so bad it caused liver cirrhosis -- a condition normally associated with heavy drinkers. He also developed autoimmune hepatitis, in which the body's own defense system attacks the liver.
He was told a transplant could save him but he was too frightened to have the operation and continued eating his favorite McDonald's french fries, sliced white bread and canned baked beans, the newspaper said.
He oughta sue!
Darwin award finalist.
That really sounds like a boring diet!
In other words..
The man is no longer alive because he was a dumba$$.
I don't believe this assumption that his diet killed him
This guy must have been a GAS to be around.
Something similar happened to a co-worker of mine who nearly choked to death trying to eat a Big Mac in three bites... well, not that similar I guess.
Owl_Eagle(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
Bingo
I don't buy it either.
I don't either. A 20-year-old man is a human garbage disposal. Check out the dietary scene at any college in America. If he had been over 40, I might have believed it.
I agree with you, and while no one will ever hear the retraction months from now, this is almost certainly groundless.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this guy probably had a predisposition to liver problems or a drinking problem, or both.
Cause if eating "bad" all of a sudden causes liver problems I know a ton of people that should be up for liver transplants.
It's a safe bet that with his diet he wasn't finding anyone willing to, uh, reproduce with him.
Junk food didn't kill him; malnutrition did. He could have died just as easily if he'd eaten nothing but tofu. The concept of a BALANCED diet is lost on some people.
I didn't know that the Brits ate "french fries." I do remember "chips" and beans on toast as three of their basic food groups.
The good news is that he cannot pass his genes on.
This appears to present ample opportunity for more nanny-state legislation.
