The Boulder County Drug Task Force announced Thursday it had arrested 10 people in connection with selling drugs on or near the Pearl Street Mall, including Jeff Christen-Mitchell, a Libertarian candidate for Boulder County Commissioner in 2004.
Christen-Mitchell was charged with one count each of distribution of marijuana; conspiracy to distribute marijuana; possession of marijuana with intent to sell; possession of more than 8 ounces of marijuana and possession of a schedule II controlled substance.
Other defendants facing various charges include Donald McNeese, April Martinez-Laveta, Justin Boyer, Greta Duderstadt, Charles Weddle, Dallas Elviro Dilaura, Diana Stough, Kenneth Finney and Joseph Gulla.
Warrants for the arrest of Daniel Rogers and Jerimiah Jordan, who are at large, were also issued.
A press release from the BCDT said the warrants came as the result of a three-month investigation that had identified several persons involved in the distribution, and conspiracy to distribute, marijuana and controlled substances.'
The release said the investigation also netted three search warrants, about $7000 in drug proceeds, 50 ounces of marijuana, 1 ounce of psilocybin mushrooms, assorted prescription drugs and some stolen property.
Authorities said in the release that the Task Force targeted the Pearl Street Mall because of its status as a shopping, social and work destination for people living in Boulder and the surrounding area and because this activity attracts an element of people that detracts from the positive atmosphere of the mall and negatively impacts most people's quality of life
It's been 6 or so years since I went, so I was a bit naive and less politically aware then. I noticed the loads of crappy psychidelic T-Shirt stores and other weird so-called 'art' shops. Those didn't bother me all that bad then, now I'd run from just that.
However, I did see something that scared me.. To the point that IF I ever had to go back there again, I'd certainly have a concealed pistol on me.
This bum playing a guitar was wondering around the place where we were eating. We were sitting outside and stuff. The bum walks up to someone else begs for cash. The person next to us told him to get lost. The bum flashed a look liked 'wait right there, I'm going to knife you'. He left, but that kind of confrontational stuff with trash people is something I refuse to witness again unarmed.
The drug warriors are not conservative by any stretch of the imagination.
You'll find that most if not all of them support gun control as well.
I feel MUCH better now.
Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD. You're using a definition of conservatism that doesn't make sense. There's nothing conservative about smoking pot.
Known as "the courage of their convictions".
(Hah! I made a joke.)
and because this activity attracts an element of people that detracts from the positive atmosphere of the mall and negatively impacts most people's quality of life
I figure the likes of -Ken Lay of Enron, Jeffrey Skilling of Enron, Bernard Ebbers of WorldCom, Richard Scrushy of HealthSouth and Dennis Kozlowski of Tyco have caused far greater negative impact to most people's quality of life than anyone selling a few ounce of cannabis.
In the last 25 years the government has spent about 100 billion dollars trying to stop people from using marijuana - guess what - It didn't work.
Sure it did. Your typical faulty libertarian logic is like saying the medical industry is failing because people still die. And guess what? The corporate scumbags you mentioned are all being prosecuted, so I guess the extra resources are available.
By who's definition? I am a law-abiding system? Should it be legal for me to purchase and own a stinger surface to air missle?
"You'll find that most if not all of them support gun control as well."
Care to try and back that up?
So was Dixon, the NYC soldier who shot a criminal intruder with an "illegal gun," possession of which is a felony. Lock him up and throw away the key!
Oh you silly potheads... Goodness. Confusing guns with a legit purpose with illegal drugs.
Let me put it another way - There are 10's of millions of persons in the country who enjoy using cannabis (without a single overdose death). If you could stop all the cannabis use instantly - what replacement mind altering substance would you allow them to use instead of cannabis?
In NYC, there is no such thing as a civilian-owned gun with a "legitimate purpose". In any case, it's a felony to possess an unregistered gun there. Don't you respect and abide by laws? If I'm a pothead, you're a gun trafficker.
Life.
Life is a substance? Wow, you're really tweaked, dude.
I have a concealed carry license. I meticulously follow the gun laws. I carry where I can, but only where I legally can.
Why is following the law so hard for you? And with the gun you can save your life. No such thing with illegal drugs. You lose on both aspects of the argument.
"Let me put it this way, hippies and kooks everywhere."
I go there every couple of weeks or so in the summer just to sit and watch. Have you ever seen the guy who dresses up like Gandalf the Grey? Too strange. Thank God I live in Longmont.
Libertarians and liberals' lives are apparently so rotten that they can't stop using illegal drugs. Pretty sad that there's so much worthless trash in the world.
