A Norwegian cancer researcher has admitted fabricating data published in a renowned international medical journal, officials in Norway said Saturday.

The researcher at Norway's Comprehensive Cancer Center, who was not identified, used faked patient data in an article on oral cancer published in the October 2005 issue of The Lancet, Britain's leading medical journal, said Stein Vaaler, strategy director for the cancer center.

The article claimed that a certain kind of drug decreased the risk of getting oral cancer

It's the pill factories that are killing us. They'd be out of business if a cure was found.

I learned years ago about the difference between "science" and "scientism."

Science is the noble exercise of exploring and discovering the mysteries of the universe in the name of the welfare of mankind.

Scientism is occasionally donning a white coat and mostly spending your time angling for grants.

Regretably, scientism has a way of running science out of the marketplace.

Lives depend on the scientific community being honest. IMHO, this fellow should be tried as a criminal and the death penalty should be considered if found guilty.

And that goes for the global warming weenies as well.

I'm shocked! Shocked and deeply saddened!

A SCIENTIST falsifying data?????? No, that can't be. Scientists are OBJECTIVE. They have no other motives or
agendas other than the pure unbiased science that drives
the field. \sarcasm

The concept of "Scientism" really sums up the situation. I'm going to use it frequently from now on.

Totally unbelievable, but it seems to be the rule rather than the exception. And all those "colleagues" walking around acting shocked, what's that all about. Maybe more fear than outrage.

It's like the difference between piety and religiosity.

Medical Journals - At least as accurate as the NYT apparently.

But who am I to believe in moral absolutes like being honest and truthful and accountable......................

Really makes you want to go out and fill a bunch of prescriptions and pop them pills with wicked side effects, doesn't it?

Yup. It's a consiracy and everybody is in on it.

Except "alternative medicine" sellers, of course. They haven't been corrupted by the educational system.

Have you ever noticed that once someone starts taking pills for something it never stops ? They just keep slatherin on more to deal with the side effects of the last one.

I think that antibiotics are the only reason our lives are longer. They do at least keep us from dying at 35 from a fever. The rest I dunno.

from the article:
The researcher at Norway's Comprehensive Cancer Center, who was not identified

I guess there must be some sort of "Mendacious Researcher Protection
Program" in Norway.

I'm with you. These doctors are just as bankrupt for ideas as to how to treat an illness as Democrats are in how to run this country.

It should only take a week or so to train a doctor. All they have to know is how to spell a few words because they prescribe the same drugs over and over. Shouldn't be rocket science.
