Mark Steyn: Ham-handed Dems didn't lay a glove on Alito
Sun Times ^ | Mark Steyn

I find it, as grave somber Senate Democrats like to say, "troubling." Indeed, I find it not just "troubling" but sad that a party once so good at "the politics of personal destruction" has got so bad at it. The last time they had a Supreme Court nominee to hang upside down in the Democrat bondage dungeon was the John Roberts hearings. And at least, when hatchet man Chuck Schumer professed himself "troubled" by the "fullness" of John Roberts' "heart," the crack oppo-research guys had uncovered an "inappropriate" use of the word "amigo" by Roberts back in the early '80s.

But, with Sam Alito the worst they come could up with was that he might have been around some other guy who might have used the word "amigo." Not back in the early '80s, but in the early '70s.

Kennedy's staff didn't show the slightest interest in actually looking at the requested documents.

Just another example of Kennedy's cynical deception of the entire Committee in order to showcase his false but energetic temper tantrum.

As further demonstrated by the Democrat senators behavior when the seven judges testified as witnesses. All had worked closely with Alito and, remember, three of them were Democrats. If the Democrats were really interested in how Alito thought, whether he had an "agenda" and what his "judicial temperament" was, these were the people who could tell them.

Leahy, Kennedy, Biden, Durbin, et al could not find the time to be in their seats for this testimony, however. They took the afternoon off.

Accordingly, it appears that, if they couldn't grill Alito and score political points off his person, they weren't interested in the proceedings.

Such losers.

I kept thinking last week if she was sitting there they would have reduced her to a bowl of mush; and that is probably why they were so upset when 'she' dropped out.

Funny thing is, they were the final nail in her being nominated when they returned her paperwork as a do-over.

I you ask me...and I realize nobody is...the left is not that far away from spawning anarchists.

They are desperate. It's comical to watch as it plays out.

the left is not that far away from spawning anarchists.

I had a peacenik leftie demand on a forum that I come down to his neighborhood so he could kick my ass.

Anyone who has ever met me would realize that such a demand might be hazardous to one's health.

As if I would bother with him - I haven't been in a fight since ninth grade. I'm a peaceful sort because my size allows me to be that way.

But my favorite is when I see the lefties contemplate civil war - in other words, the gun-control types want to take on the gun nuts.

Which shows yet again that the left lives in abject denial of reality.

You inspred my new tagline...

I debated whether to make my bumper sticker either:

Democrats and Aljazeera: Perfect Together (a la NJ's slogan)

or

Democrats and Aljazeera: Working Together (which they really are.... AGAINST the security of America)

Thanks for the ping.

Don't think I have much to add, except to say "Hear, hear!" to Steyn's last paragraph. Through the 'net, we are exercising the populism that the Left dreads

You're right. No matter how entertaining they can be, and how much we laugh, they are still extremely dangerous.
