George Clooney is convinced he ruined John Kerry's chances in the race for US president in 2004 - by snubbing an invitation and hurting his feelings.
The Ocean's Twelve actor was one of several screen stars invited to ride on Kerry's election train, but it all went downhill for the Democrat when Clooney stayed away.
He recalls: "Kerry asked me to ride on his train - he had a train going cross-country after he was nominated and some actors went on board. I called him and explained that I couldn't do it. I'd hurt him. I'd actually caused him harm at the polls."

MIDI - I'D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO SING
I'd like to teach the world that I am really very smart
I'll sing a song with witty rhymes, I guess that's how to start
I should have told John Kerry I would get aboard his train
It's obvious that he had lost because I had abstained
The world revolves around just me, that's surely known to most
If I had been there helping John, George Bush would have been toast
I'm the real thing...yes, that has a good ring
And credibilty is what I certainly can bring
When they hear the name Clooney, there is always this reply
They say that I'm more brillant than that Stephen Hawking guy
To have me in your presence will be very good for you
They've told me that for many years so, hey, what can I do
I only have been challenged once in some flyover town
A guy called me a narcissist and major league *ssclown
The train carrying Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry and running mate John Edwards passes through Lawrence. It was expected to stop for the supporters who came to greet the candidates early Saturday, but the train continued because of a mix-up, a campaign spokeswoman said.
You get the blame for this.
don't know how you pull them out of the hat so fast! thanks, doug.

just tuning up.... heheh.
I think that a few times I actually posted three in a day. The Clintons created great inspiration.
Terrific DFU!!!
I couldn't imagine what would happen if they had tried to fit Kerry, Edwards, and Clooney's heads and egos into one train car!!!
KA-BOOM!!!
The Ego Express. Does anyone know what "stars" joined him?
I knew that you were up to the task. Good job as always.
I know that Ben Affleck was with him for a while...but, I don't know about the train ride.
has anybody here seen my old friend george?
can you tell me where he's gone?
he stood up john kerry
president hopes did bury...
he's not on the train with the johns
LOL...very good!
Nobody missed you, Georgie!! Not for a minute.... Just get over yourself! Now if Kerry could have gotten Charlize Theron and Cameron Ditz... I mean Diaz, on that train, the campaign could have gotten interesting..... :^)
It wouldn't have promoted harmony with that moonbat Ter-ay-za, but it sure would have kept the campaign reporters happy trying to come up with new stories on the Kerry menage-a-trois.....
Cameron Diaz -- if you want rape to be legal, then don't vote
songwriting isn't as easy as dfu makes it look. I about killed myself on the verbs!
LOL....I about kill myself with verbs...just posting on FR!!!
Clooney vows to keep quiet about politics (lol)Ocean's Eleven star George Clooney is urging his fellow Hollywood stars to keep quiet when it comes to politics, because he fears celebrity endorsements could wreck their favourite candidates' chances of victory.
Democrat Clooney and a number of screen stars have recently come under attack for voicing their political views.
And the actor, whose father Nick Clooney was recently defeated in his bid to be elected the congressional representative for Kentucky, has now vowed to be a lot more politically low-key.
He says: "My father ran for congress last year. I couldn't campaign for him and I knew I couldn't, because I'd hurt him.
They tried to get me to get on the John Kerry train and I said: 'We'll hurt him. They'll use us as 'liberal'.'
"Now, I would argue that (throughout) American history, it's pretty hard to find a time when liberals were on the wrong side of an issue. We thought that the conservative view was: 'Witches should be burned at the stake.' Moderate view was: 'Well, just in case,' and the liberal view was: 'There's no such thing as witches.'
"We thought women should be able to vote and blacks should be allowed to sit at the front of the bus and Vietnam was wrong. We haven't really been on a lot of wrong sides for us to be sort of used as this bad word.
"But we hurt candidates right now, so we can do fundraisers quietly and make some money. But I think it's dangerous to get up and talk about it."
poor george.... still fixated on his role in the campaign.
