Fighting off the radical feminist assault
Jewish World Review ^ | Jan. 11, 2006 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 01/14/2006 8:03:51 PM PST by Ooh-Ah

...My friend and colleague Kate O'Beirne has written a new book. It's called, with no undue subtlety, "Women Who Make the World Worse: and How Their Radical Feminist Assault Is Ruining Our Schools, Families, Military, and Sports." I think it's a great book, and I truly would not say so if I thought otherwise....

... A large majority of women oppose the NARAL party line of abortion on demand. John Kerry won the overall women's vote by 3 points but lost the white women's vote by 11 points. (This is particularly ironic since self-identified feminists are overwhelming white.)

When presented with this sort of evidence, feminists trot out various arguments trying to demonstrate that conservative, or otherwise un-feminist, women don't understand their own interests. This is a vestigial Marxist argument known as "false consciousness." If women only understood the truth, the way feminists do, they would agree with feminists.  If you doubt the persistence of nostalgic Marxist thinking in feminist rhetoric, check out the reader reviews of Kate's book at Amazon.com. You'll learn that Kate is a self-hating woman and a fascist doing the work of her knuckle-dragging male paymasters.  Anyone who's met Kate (or actually read her book) knows this is nonsense on stilts. A successful and independent-minded career woman and proud mom, she's equal parts Joan of Arc and mentoring den mother.

THere are still some terrible legacies from that neurosis, but feminism is largely a dead horse now.

Feminism was invented to provide a source of income for unattractive women.

Feminism was invented to provide a source of income for unattractive women.

Then I would say that Kate O'Beirne has profited greatly from feminism.

There are nurse unions with larger memberships than N.O.W. Why doesn't the media ask the California Nurses Association, which represents 65,000 members, for the "woman-on-the-street" opionion? They certainly represent a larger and more diverse section of the American female population, i.e. they represent more than just white college lesbians.

For a book with such negative reviews, it sure does generate some extreme emotional reaction

You can tell a large group of feminists spent a bit of time trying to trash the book (or one feminist with a lot of time on her hands assuming a lot of persona)

I hope conservatives who endorse this overdue book will admit that sending mothers of young children off to war is an abomination. And start to object out loud.

Generation X commentators of note: Jonah Goldberg, Michelle Malkin, Ben Shapiro, for starters.

Left-wing generation X commentators of note: help me out here. Who is the up-and-coming Krugman, Dowd, Ivins, etc.?

TI'm wondering if Marxist-inspired leftism as a coherent ideology is slowly dying off. The leftists of generation X can only offer a general rage with no coherent commentary.
