Ohio Senator Mike DeWine has eked out a narrow lead over both potential Democratic opponents in his re-election effort, but the race remains hotly competitive.
The Republican incumbent enjoys an edge of 43% to 39% over Cincinnati-area lawyer Paul Hackett, and 45% to 40% over Congressman Sherrod Brown.

I would think that DeWine is among the most vulnerable Republicans running for reelection. Had he stood firm on principle over the years, he would be in better shape, it seems to me.

I meant to post this a few days ago, but got distracted.
If Gov. Bob Taft would just resign, DeWine would be able to take a stronger lead. As it is now, he's improved his standing but the race could easily go either way.

Amazing how after all the angst from the usual suspects about ho well "Iraqi War Vets running as Democrats" was going "to sell like crazy in Peoria", Hackett is running well behind.

Yes, and unfortunately for DeWhiner, there are more voters watching him this time around, unlike previously, and they don't like what they see. Another RINO polling under 50%.

Actually Dewine has not improved his standing. His opponents have decreased their standing. I hope Brown and Hackett tear each other apart in the primary. Hackett seems enough of a loose canon to do that.

There's a real chance that you're right on that. If Hackett were a Republican, he'd make me uneasy.

I think what happened with Hackett was that after the last election people discovered that he was actually a Democrat instead of the Republican he tried to portray himself as by running the campaign ads showing him with Bush.
Amazing that Democrats can never seem to win by simply running on what they really. stand for

HASTA LA VISTA BABY, or should I say member of the UN-MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.
He can start a new business with his son.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Without some sort of major controversy, Dewine will win. People know the name, and whether you like him or not, he will keep his seat. He would have to be challenged by a Republican to lose his seat, or be identified as a player in some sort of DeLay type scandal.

Democrat Hackett ran as a Republican. Nobody bought his phony campaign ads.
To: Clintonfatigued
So there isn't a republican in this race?

Actually, Hackett won 48% in the most heavily Republican district in the state. So it turns out quite a few people bought his phony campaign ads.
But if he's the nominee against DeWine, he'll be subject to a lot more scrutiny.

In light of his betrayal of the GOP over judicial nominees, the only reason I want DeWine to win is to keep the majority in the senate.

Don't worry, DeWine is back in line. There will be no filibuster of Samuel Alito.
